A great comical film with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. Since as I can remember, when this was on the TV, I loved it and watched it all the way through, it made laugh at the most silly things.
Cast - Gene Wilder Richard Pryor JoBeth Williams Craig T. Nelson Barry Corbin Charles Weldon Miguel Angel Suarez Nicolas Coster
These two make a great pair and even though its an old’ish film, I would still keep it on my shelf.
We start in New York City, Harry is a waiter at a posh dinner party where the diners seem to be a little too happy. Seconds later, we find that the cook has been very liberal with the oregano her helper took from the cook's bag, only then to find out it was Harry's bag, and it sure wasn't oregano! Skip is the goofiest store detective you'll ever meet, who meets a famous actress and accuses her of shoplifting, which she denies.
They are commiserating in a local bar, as they have both been fired! They decide to shake the dust of New York from under them, and strike out for Hollywood to seek their vast fortune, with visions of money and exotic women dancing in their heads.
Whilst on there way their van breaks down in a small town, this then forcing them to seek a job as mascots for the local bank. Then it goes horribly wrong when two locals impersonate our heroes to rob that very bank and the police arrest our boys for the crime. After a hilarious scene at the local lockup, our heroes find the course of justice blindingly fast and harsh and are shipped off to Glenboro State Prison for a 125 year sentence.
When in prison, they start to get introduced to people, and on entering the prison, there one guy that says "I can get you a cheese burger" and Pryor saying "I don't want no cheese burger from you". During the few minutes that they are in the prison, you are introduced to the group that will then help escape.
During the film, they are sent ot the warden (I would guess at) and Gene is told to ride the machanical bull. With Gene passing all the levels of the ride, the warden is having the hope that he has found his champ for the first time.
From this they are recruited to work in the prison rodeo and during the show, they slowly slip out one at a time in to make there get-away. They get out in different parts and change in the car park with help from friends. Once they have escaped and change cars, they end-up finding out that they where not guilty and didn't need to escape. This is now the end of the film and that Gene finds love with their layers helper.
If you like the film as much as I do, you will also be disappointed by the lack of extras. You get starkly presented cast and crew filmographies.
As above, the talent and filmographies section is rather bare on the details and starkly presented. Whenever this sort of selection is included on a disc, we should at least get details on the life and careers of the person in question.
I love this film, and would recommend it if you are a fan of these two. The script is well written and the acting was fantastic.
