"Still Game" is a Scottish comedy written and starring Ford Kiernan and Greg Hemphill as the two grumpy pensioners, Jack Jarvis and Victor McDade, from Craiglang, a fictional area in Glasgow. The show was aired on the BBC and since the release of this box-set, another series as well as Christmas and New Year specials have been released.
The show follows the lives of Jack and Victor and all their friends in Craiglang. Each episode focuses on an entirely new situation but with the usual character interactions. Jack and Victor always end up in a new situation with their friends close behind. The way in which Still Game is written is superb, with a laugh around almost every corner. Scottish comedy has rarely been as good as this, its simply a joy to watch. One of Still Game's strong points is the detail of all of the characters and the way in which this is revealed to the viewer. It is really easy to relate to them and the dialogue between characters is fantastic.
Some of the supporting characters include Winston Ingram played by Paul Riley. Winston regularly features in the episodes and provides viewers with much entertainment due to his short temper. Another character is Tam Mullen played by Mark Cox. Tam is constantly trying to scrounge anything he can from drinks to unwanted meals. Other minor characters include Isa, the really nosy neighbour who does nothing but gossip. The local corner shop owner Navid who is constantly bickering with his wife and the Boabby the barmen at their local pub the Clansman, who is the butt of everyones jokes.
What really makes Still Game a joy to watch is how the characters interact with each other. They almost make you feel like you are part of the community and can join in with their antics. Some of the situations Still Game explores are easy to relate to and make it that much more enjoyable to watch. I recommend it to any comedy fan who is looking for something original that will satisfy their need to laugh! You do not want to miss out on this comedy gem.
These series are definitely worth 5/5 as they will have you laughing all the way through.
