This horror triple feature presents STIGMATA, HELLRAISER, and CHILDREN OF THE CORN in one specially priced box set. See individual titles for more details.
STIGMATA: When a young American woman (Patricia Arquette) begins exhibiting the characteristics of stigmata (spontaneously bleeding from the wrists and forehead, speaking in Aramaic), a Vatican envoy (Gabriel Byrne) is deployed to investigate whether the afflictions are demonic or divine. The dark, quick-cut cinematography of Jeffrey L. Kimball (JACOB'S LADDER) and a gothic soundscape assembled by Billy Corgan place the devil (of this film) in the details.
HELLRAISER: Clive Barker's feature directing debut graphically depicts the tale of a man and wife who move into an old house and discover a hideous creature--the man's half-brother, who is also the woman's former lover--hiding upstairs. Having lost his earthly body to a trio of S&M demons called the Cenobites, he is brought back into existence by a drop of blood on the floor. He soon forces his former mistress to bring him human sacrifices to complete his body... but the Cenobites won't be happy about this. The film is one of the best horror offerings of the 1980s, based on Barker's novel THE HELLBOUND HEART.
CHILDREN OF THE CORN: Young lovers on a cross-country trip stop in a small Nebraska community and make a shocking discovery. One day, three years prior to the couples' arrival, the town's children killed all the grown-ups at the apparent behest of a demon simply dubbed He Who Walks Behind the Rows. Based on a short story from horror scribe Stephen King's Night Shift collection, this film spawned a slew of bloody sequels.
Advantages: Good cast, creepy setting, entertaining Disadvantages: None
...Children of the Corn is a horror film adapted from the short story by Stephen King. It was made in 1984 and stars Peter Horton, Linda Hamilton and John Franklin as Isaac, the child preacher.
A young couple find a briefcase with blood on it so drive into what seems like a normal mid-western town called Gatlin to try and report the incident to the police, but find only children and no adults to be found. They try to find out what happened in this town, but as Burton heads to the town hall, his girlfriend, Vicky, is captured and brought to Isaac, the head of all the children. He says he is spoken to by 'he who walks behind the rows', meaning the rows of corn, and has brainwashed everyone into doing and believing whatever he says. Fortunately, there is a brother and sister who want out of this murderous cult, and so help Brandon get Vicky...

Advantages: Superb movie and a real find Disadvantages: none
...Stigmata.
=
A film that I only watched on the off chance and boy was it a cracker.
We follow two main characters who eventually meet and that's when the story really takes off.
Father Keirnan is a Vatican investigator who is dispatched around the world debunking supposed miracles.
And then there is Frankie, a part time waitress and general nobody.
When Frankie starts to exhibit The Stigmata she comes to the attention of Father Keirnan and soon he is drawn into a true and shocking miracle. The hallucination and terrors that begin to materialise are both graphic and scary.
The movie builds and builds to a surprising ending, in fact two endings if you want to see the alternate ending. The other ending is a bit sad.
The acting performance from Gabriel Byrne, Frankie Paige and Jonathan Price where excellent. In fact...

Advantages: Better than watching cricket Disadvantages: A total let down on previous Children of the Corn films
...What a pile of pants…. it is Saturday night, midnight, and I had siked myself up to watching this film all day. I was in the mood for a good horror, but unfortunately the only horror to be found was the expression on my face at the terribleness of this film.
The original Children of the Corn is one of my all time favourite films and still sends shivers down my back when I remember it. This film was dark and sinister and had enough surprises to make you jump into next week…also I have always rated the first film as having the best soundtrack to enhance the scariness.
Now onto Children of the Corn 6 – Why, Oh Why, Oh Why, is my first question – if they had run out of ideas to carry this film off why on earth did they even attempt to make it.
The plot centres on Hannah Martin, who travels from California to...
