Personally for me, the first series of Starsky and Hutch is by far the best season of the entire series. There are a number of reasons for this, such as the originality and the sheer grittiness of the show itself. What I found after watching all four seasons on DVD was that the stories opened up to an extent that the Detectives were sent to other locations like the Bahamas or Las Vegas to solve murders and mysteries that the plot revolved around. On this box-set, the most powerful episodes are the pilot, which involves Starsky and Hutch being hunted down by suspected mafia hit men and The Fix where Hutch is kidnapped and becomes dependant upon Heroin. In fact the BBC were so appalled with this episode that they never broadcast it till BBC2 has a Starsky ...

Begins his journey as a tone deaf, idle, useless, curry loving, carefree or should that be careless, scruffy slob.
But his character develops
Arnold J Rimmer.
(Chris Barrie)
Arnie is the most cowardly, back stabbing, regimented, and pathetic life form to ever call itself human. But Arnie, or big man to his friends, has the biggest transformation of them all because he ends up becoming Ace Rimmer the multiverses greatest hero, what a guy!
Cat.
(Danny John-Jules)
The offspring of an idiot and a cripple, he is the most vain creature in all of the multiverses.
His character never really changes.

nothing about that time, then this Starsky and Hutchboxset might take you a while to get accustomed to. Whatever you do, do not adjust your TV set?
The thing about 70s shows, is that often they don't age as well as those from other eras. The outrageous fashion and sense of style has seen to that. In Starsky and Hutch though, it adds a certain 'je-ne-sais-quoi' to an already great show, call it flashy chic maybe.
When this series was first aired, it was a huge success. It is not too difficult to analyse the reasons for that success. Firstly, it was very different from other cop shows, more modern and unconventional. Second, the two main characters shared a great friendship, they weren't afraid to hug or cry. Third (OK, I'll stop counting after that), it tackled very grave subjects and didn't shy away from showing the seedier side ...
Dave Starsky and Ken 'Hutch' Hutchinson are plainclothes cops patrolling the streets of an unnamed American city--portrayed by Los Angeles--in a 1973 red Grand Torino. Dark-haired Starsky, who has an unflagging appetite and a quick quip for any situation, and tall, blonde, Hutch, who is more soulful and serious, are not just partners on the job, they are also close friends. But their unorthodox methods are endlessly frustrating for their boss, Captain Dobey. The duo has a powerful ally on the street, however, in Huggy Bear, a shady character who proves Starsky and Hutch with plenty of inside information.

DVD Description
Perhaps the archetypal 1970's American cop show, Dave Starsky (Paul Michael Glaser) and Ken 'Hutch' Hutchinson (David Soul) are plainclothes cops patrolling the streets of an unnamed city--portrayed by Los Angeles--in a 1973 red Grand Torino. Dark-haired Starsky, who has an unflagging appetite and a quick quip for any situation, and tall, blonde, heart-throb Hutch, who is more soulful and serious, are not just partners on the job--they are also close friends. But their unorthodox methods are endlessly frustrating for their boss, Captain Dobey (Bernie Hamilton). The duo has a powerful ally on the street, however, in the police informant Huggy Bear (Antonio Fargas), a shady character who provides Starsky and Hutch with plenty of inside information. Full of tyre-screeching chases, shoot-outs, running and jumping up and down fire escapes and across busy roads, STARSKY AND HUTCH has plenty of street-wise action and humour. Contains series 1 to 4 of STARKSY AND HUTCH.
