Advantages Advantages Stiller & Wilson in top loveable form!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Weak plot, Huggy bear is a disappointment

Director: Todd Phillips Screenplay: Todd Phillips, John O’Brien, Scot Armstrong Cast: Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Vince Vaughan, Snoop Dogg Classification: 15 Story: Forced to team up by their irate Chief, mismatched Bay City cops David Starsky (Stiller) and Ken Hutchinson (Wilson) go after drug dealer Reese Feldman (Vaughan), developing a friendship along the way… Not a remake, nor a reimagining, Phillips’ S&H still trades on the nostalgic look of the 70s cop show, with the bad perms, lo-fi car chases and funky soundtrack all accounted for. But that’s where the similarities end, as this is ... more

    Advantages Advantages Really, really funny

    Disadvantages Disadvantages Poor DVD Extras

I’m a big fan of cheese, not necessarily the edible type but the less tangible quality you get from listening to a good S Club 7 or Proclaimers song. When I go into a club I don’t hang around in the cooler, pretentious dance or R’N’B rooms, I head straight for the cheese room where everyone is always smiling and having fun, rather than just pretending to. This is exactly the feel that Starsky and Hutch has – It is a take off of 70s style, a satirical portrayal of a classic series but mainly it is just fun. Regardless of whether you are a fan of the original or not ... more

Advantages Advantages First ever big movie version of the show!

Disadvantages Disadvantages Too much comedy, just like a Saturday Night Live sketch!

Since I was a kid I have always been a fan of Starsky and Hutch even though I was never allowed to watch anything more than the opening title sequence as it was shown at 9.25pm on a Thursday night on BBC1. So when they announced that Starsky and Hutch was going to be made into a movie I was more than happy that the famous TV series had finally got the leap from TV to cinema screen that it really deserved. After I saw the film at the cinema, I was thinking the complete opposite. The plot revolves around a new mix of Cocaine which cannot be detected by the sniffer dogs and therefore can be moved ... more

Advantages Advantages It really is good entertainment provided you don't expect too much

Disadvantages Disadvantages The women were all a bit weak, and its hardly a "Great" film

"Starsky and Hutch" is the cinematic equivalent of bubblegum. It's great big silly fun that tastes good and has a sort of childish daftness that you can't help but enjoy. ...even if you really should know better... Before I start, I should admit one thing to everyone. I don't actually remember the 1970's TV series staring David Soul and Paul Michael Glasier. Like the target demographic of this film (late teens), I'm just a little bit too young. Although I may not know the original show it is easy to tell that where this film succeeds is in being a complete pastiche of the original, rather than ... more

No, sorry, who did you say you were? An original concept, eh? We don’t take kindly to your sort in Hollywoodland. What was your name again? Nah, not heard of you. Integrity? What kind of a name is that? Get outta here. Wait, who’s this? Ah, Mr Re-Hash. Good to see you. Love your work. Have some money. Take your pick of over-used comedy actors. Nice, nice. In you go then, and get to work. We need our screens filling, and quick! Pop! Off goes the cynical head. Yes, it’s another fine day for film-making. The money you spent to see all those critically acclaimed dirges about the human spirit and ... more
