latest chapter in this incredible series. The venerable Richard Dean Anderson returns to the fold whilst the late Don S. Davis makes his final appearance as General George Hammond. Spectacular sci-fi at its best! While SG-1 attends the execution of Ba'al the last of the Goa'uld System Lords Teal'c and Vala inexplicably disappear into thin air. Carter Daniel and Mitchell race back to a world where history has been changed: the Stargate program has been erased from the timeline. As they try to convince the authorities what's happened hundreds of Goa'uld motherships arrive in orbit led by Ba'al his queen Qetesh (Vala) and his first prime Teal'c. The remaining SG-1 members must find the Stargate and set things right before the world is enslaved by the Goa'uld. Hello. My name is Ryan and I'm an Gate-o-holic.
As you *may* have picked up on from previous reviews, I love everything Stargate based and this is no exception. (Surprise)
So, after nearly dying of a mini stroke when I noticed I'd missed the first showing of this on Sky One, you can only begin to imagine my delight when my bestest buddy messaged me to inform me that Sky has not one, but many channels, dedicated to ending my life in a television related illness. Thankfully, one of these such channels (Sky Two as they so academically named it) was showing the repeat tonight.
Yes, I could have just downloaded it since those god...er...fearing..ahem...Americans got it first, but that would be totally against everything that I stand for. That and I was busy with Atlantis...hmm...
So, down to the nitty gritty. The Ark Of Truth is a Made-for-TV-movie. It is based on a true story and is a tear jerker about a mother forced to make the audience fall asleep... Oh wait no sorry, that's every OTHER Made-For-TV-Movie!
This one, as much as it worried me with the MFTM title, was a little television shaped orgasm.
The point behind this movie is to conclude the amazingly successful SG-1 series which ended with a vague hope that the most evil dudes in the universe (The Ori) were dead...but the unfortunate fact that their army lived on and weren't all too aware of their masters demise still remained.
This (essentially) extended episode centres around a device that can thwart this powerful foe once and for all and, as always, the mass amounts of fun the team have when they 1. try to find it and 2. try to make it work.
The cast of SG-1 are back for the movie which makes it a tad confusing if you like continuity. Not that it's not fandabby having the gang back to kick some alien butt, but it's a little confusing for the avid gater (yes, we get confused) The movie is supposed to follow right on from the end of season 10...but being a movie it took a liiiiittle bit longer to get made so most gaters will have already seen the team go their separate ways for season 4 of the spin off show Atlantis.
Most people won't mind but it bugged me, generally since the SG-1 writers fit all the spin offs together seamlessly. They obviously planned to have the movie out a bit sooner. Oh well.
As for the plot, good stuff. Nothing groundbreaking, though they did throw in a few new bad guys for the team to deal with, one of which was the very crude alien robot thing that took the form of a really screwed up skeleton. I dubbed it the Termi-gater. It made me laugh ok.
There are a couple of gory bits in this (think brains on spikes) but its not a major feature of the film. The visual effects are, as usual top notch and make it that little bit more fun to watch.
I'd like to say I'll buy the DVD but being honest I most likely wont. It would not do well as a stand alone piece. You need your Stargate knowledge on hand to really know what's going on since its main audience is, after all, the gate-geeks. Since you would need the knowledge it would be kinda redundant owning this when I don't own the SG-1 series. THAT is what my lesbian friend is for.
Overall, a fantastic conclusion that will have any Stargate fanatic writhing with pleasure in their tightey whiteys.
Advantages: Solid storyline that ties up the loose ends of the series Disadvantages: Need to have seen season 9 and 10 of the series to appreciate it
...for this to come out, Stargate - The Ark of Truth, nicely rounded off the Ori saga and would not have meant a lot to anyone as a stand alone product, you really needed to have seen Stargate SG-1 Series 9 and 10 to have appreciated this story line.
The gang were all back (with the exception of Richard Dean Anderson). Starring Ben Browder (Cameron Mitchell), Michael Shanks(Dr. Daniel Jackson ), Amanda Tapping(Cpt. Samantha Carter), Christopher Judge ... ...up at the end of Stargate SG-1, Season 10. The Ori are supposedly destroyed, their leader (Adria) ascended. This leaves the remaining Prior's and Ori followers who still believe in The Book of Origin and it's teachings, who are attempting to take over our galaxy.
To combat the remaining Prior's, SG-1 go in search of The Ark of Truth, a device from the time of the ancients that is capable of brainwashing (or in this case unbrainwashing) the followers ...

Stargate The Ark Of Truth
This was a trully amazing film. Even though Stargate SG1 is over, the films are just as good. Samantha, Teal'C, Vala, Cameron and Tomin venture deep into the Ori galaxy to find a weapon. Which will hopefully stop the Ori at all costs. But problems occour when a member of the IOA purposely creates a replicator which wreaks havoc on the Odyssey. In the DVD extras

* Uncovering The Ark of Truth
* Trailers for AVPR and In the Name of the King Unlike some people i always watch DVD extras because there is always some little bit of the film you might not see. Plus it is interesting to hear what the actors and producers think of what they are doing. Overall i was gripped by what was going on because you always want to know what is going on. Especially when the replicator ...

Advantages: Incredible value, great for any fan of the series Disadvantages: Lacks the special extras you may find in a specially created boxset
equates to £9.90 per series against an average cost of £25-30 if you buy the individual series separately. Incredible value!
Packaging
The entire collection is contained within a cardboard box with the design shown in the picture on the reverse. The design is not particularly attractive, but can easily be hidden on the shelf.
Essentially this collection puts together each of the series boxsets that you can buy in the shops - and so the design of each case sleeve is a copy of the original sleeve design. Each series is contained within its own case. Each case is "m-lock" meaning that there are a number of DVD clips/holders in each case keeping the discs secure.
The Ark of Truth comes in its own slimline DVD case.
