As none of you probably know, I am a big, big Stargate fan. The stargate series continues from where the original film left off. In the original Stargate movie, a team of soldiers set off to an alien planet called 'Abydos', through the Stargate (see pic below), to do some reconnosance. To cut the long story short, after some time on Abydos, they encountered some trouble in the form of Goa'ulds. A Goa'uld is a human who has a parasite inside of him and poses as a god to an amount of people. The army of a Goa'uld is made up of what are called Jaffa, which essentially are modified humans to incubate the Goa'uld symbiote until they mature. The problem with these Goa'ulds is that they are arrogant, selfish, pose as Gods to everybody and are technologically advanced. Anyway, somehow, the team of soldiers which went through the Stargate, managed to kick some Goa'uld butt on Abydos, thanks to a nuke which they happened to bring along, and they returned to Earth to live happily every after.
Sorry for ruining the ending of the movie but its necessary to understand what happens in this series. I am reviewing series 4 and so quite a bit has happened since the original movie. In short these are the important points.
- The series revolves around the adventures of SG-1 (see pic). In (almost) all episodes, SG-1 travels through the stargate and meets some other civilisation, causes some trouble and fixes it in some way. Most of the civilisations they meet are human (although they do meet aliens too), because it was found that humans on Earth are the 'people of the Tari' which means that all human life in the whole universe started in our planet. Amazingly, all humans of all planets speak English or whatever language you're happening to see the episode :D lol!
- SG-1 is made up of four members: Colonel Jack O'Neill who is the commander of the team, Captain Samantha Carter who is a scientist, Daniel Jackson who is an archeologist and Teal'c who is a converted Jaffa. He has given his allegiance to Earth in a bid to one time free his people from the false gods (Gould's that is)
The DVD Series (Season 4) is made up of 6 DVDs which include 22 Stargate episodes in all. Each episode is more or less three quarters of an hour long. Because of the large number of episodes, its impossible to give an overview of each and every one.
However, here is a snippet of what 'Stargate SG-1: Season 4' is all about. The season begins with SG-1 caught up in a battle against the replicators (mechanical bugs which can replicate themselves) who have managed to infest a submarine here on Earth, and continues with SG-1 forming alliances with new civilisations, the discovery of lost loves, adventures with the Tok'ra, meeting new aliens (such as the Unas), destroying space ships and discovering new, amazing technologies.
The DVD's also include some special features such as SGC (Stargate Command) Personal Files, Video Diaries, Promotional TV Trailers, commentary by the directors and producers and a fan club spot. The soundtrack of the DVDs is available in English, German and Spanish, while subtitles are also available in Swedish, Norweigan and Danish. Also, the soundtrack is in 5.1 Digital Dolby Surround and the DVD's can be viewed on a 16:9 Widescreen.
Finally, 'Stargate SG-1 : Season 4' has a rating of 12 and can be purchased from many online stores such as amazon.com and play.com for about £24.99.
Hope you enjoyed my review, thanks for reading :) jeff
