Well I am a huge stargate fan and I might over exaggerate a bit. So I would like to say sorry in advance. SORRY. Well the TV show takes off from were the film left off. (Film stared James Spader as Dr. Jackson & Kurt Russell as Jack O'Neill). The whole point of the show is to go through the stargate (alien device capable of sending people to other planets instantly) to find allies or alien technology to fight against our galactic enemies.
As the first episode starts you come across Jack O’Neill staring through a telescope out onto the stars which gives us an instant connection to Russell’s portrayal of O’Neill, but that’s where the comparison really ends, as producers Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner have cast Richard Dean Anderson a.k.a MacGuyver to take over, and he brings his unique sense of humour with him. Now if like me you’re a child of the 80’s or Selma Bouvier that should be all you need to make you want to watch. But you soon forget about Mac and start accepting him as Jack.
Michael Shanks takes on the role of Daniel Jackson (the archaeologist that believes the pyramids where landing platforms for alien ships, turns out he’s right) the real leading character from the film and proves he can do a good Spader impression and over time makes Dr. Jackson his own. He rejoins the stargate programme in the hope of finding his wife who has been kidnapped through the gate by the evil alien (and Egyptian god) Apophis; he remains our baddie for quite some time.
The best thing about the show is its pretty good at being believable, they’ve had military consultants in to work with the cast and writers and that always adds to a show. They also reference ancient cultures almost each and every episode and they are usually pretty accurate with their history, although they have made the odd mistake now and then the cast sound like they know what they are saying so we let them away with it (after all it is fiction).
The people behind Stargate SG-1 are the same guys that brought us ‘The Outer Limits’ which wasn’t the best T.V show in the world but the stories where good. Anyway the show is into its 8th season now and so clearly standing the test of time and has now spawned an equally watchable spin-off show ‘Atlantis’.
The first season box set contains 21 episodes with just the right amount of action, history, myth and just enough science to keep Hawking happy. It has taken over the sci-fi world by setting it’s self in the present time and uses scientific theories that are believed today. Stargate SG-1 has gained a worldwide fan base and has kept us watching as the budget went up and the explosions got “BIGGER” and the stories get better and better. And in my opinion they’re all worth watching again and again.
Unfortunately the first season box set has no extra features, however they make up for that from season two onwards.
Advantages: The best episodes of season 7... so far! Disadvantages: Only four episodes per disk!
Stargate SG-1 is the Science Fiction series that follows the adventures of the American military team SG-1 and their adventures through the Stargate to explore other planets and Alien cultures. Colonel O’Neill, Major Carter, Doctor Jackson and Teal’c are reaching the end of their 7th year / season on this DVD volume but will be returning for an eighth season which is testament to the quality of the show.
Volume 36 contains the four episodes “Heroes” ... ...a sensational video about the Stargate despite the objections of the military personnel. During the filming, a mission goes disastrously wrong leading to an investigation by a mysterious secret service operative played by Robert Picardo. Our heroes, SG -1 have to cope with being not only in the spotlight of the media, but also under official investigation.
Heroes is a great episode that gives a mix of action and adventure when SG-1 is “offworld” ...

The stargate was discovered at an archaeological dig in 1928. Many experiments were carried out in the mistaken belief that the device was in fact a weapon. In 1994 a man named Daniel Jackson managed to decipher the missing link which would allow the stargate to work.

...'Stargate' I thought "how?". The Stargate goes to one planet where they have already defeated an alien who played an Egyptian God. What other story lines can they come up with. With a tweak here and a snip there they have actually come up with a winning series.

Advantages: Gripping, addictive, plenty too watch, perfect in most ways Disadvantages: expensive and may take up most of your days for the next while
I?ve been a massive fan of the Stargate franchise since my older brother brought home the first season box set a couple of years ago and we sat down to watch it nearly every day.
Ok, so first I?ll begin with an explanation of the StargateSG1 universe. Here goes. Humans are a the next step in the evolutionary path of a race of aliens known as the ?Ancients?. They were a massively advanced race both in technoligy and mentaly who existed millions of years ago. But they eventually reached a point in their evolution when they became beings of pure energy known as ?ascendedd being? who live on a different plane of existance. But this information isn?t realised for a few seaons. I tell you this because of a few common misconceptions that are sometimes spawned early on in the series.
The Ancients created a device known as the Stargate ...

- SG-1 is made up of four members: Colonel Jack O'Neill who is the commander of the team, Captain Samantha Carter who is a scientist, Daniel Jackson who is an archeologist and Teal'c who is a converted Jaffa. He has given his allegiance to Earth in a bid to one time free his people from the false gods (Gould's that is)
The DVDSeries (Season 4) is made up of 6 DVDs which include 22 Stargate episodes in all. Each episode is more or less three quarters of an hour long. Because of the large number of episodes, its impossible to give an overview of each and every one.
However, here is a snippet of what 'StargateSG-1: Season 4' is all about. The season begins with SG-1 caught up in a battle against the replicators (mechanical bugs which can ...

StargateS.G.1 based on the Stargate movie.
This series is one of the best science fiction series ever. The series follows S.G. 1 on their missions to other planets through the Stargate. The S.G. 1 team are made up of Jack O'Neill (2 L's), Samantha Carter, Daniel Jackson and eventually Teal'c. Colonel Jack O'Neill is very anti establishment and has a lot of funny one liners and always seems to be the one getting shot, blown up, zapped, transported or whatever. Richard Dean Anderson plays him. Captain Carter is the science geek, if it is broke or needs fixing she can fix it. She uses words like exponentially a lot. Amanda Tapping plays her. Daniel Jackson is an archaeologist who originally told the world that the pyramids were landing pads for alien ships. Micheal Shanks plays him. Teal'c is a Jaffa and he starts off as ...
