perfected in this acclaimed spin-off of the STARGATE SG-1 series, itself spun-off from the 1994 blockbuster from director Roland Emmerich. In STARGATE: ATLANTIS, an international crew of scientists and soldiers finds yet another Stargate... One which leads to the Lost City of Atlantis. This Stargate, though, isn't on Earth but in the far-away Pegasus Galaxy, and the secret city holds a formidable new enemy--the Wraith. This release includes the complete series.

I went into this as a total skeptic. I'm terrible for trying to pick things apart. So in went the first disc. The first episode starts with some amazing special effects and throws in Jack O'neil and Daniel Jackson as if to say "Its ok, don't worry, it will be fine, we promise" And I have to admit, after the first five minutes of trying to set up the story so those new to the whole Stargate thing (possibly people from a different planet?) could follow it, it got good!
After one episode I was hooked and kicking myself for not having watched it sooner. After a day or two of constant watching (I was addicted) I had finished the box set. Not only were the episodes all up to SG1 standard, they introduced some great new characters and ideas. It left me hanging on the edge of my seat desperate to buy the next box set.
Not only were the episodes amazing, the extras are pretty fantastic too. Cast and crew interviews, behind the scenes jaunts and some hillarious moments kept me entertained for that little bit longer. As a nice little surprise some of the SG1 actors also appear in the extras! The extra "Wrathial discrimination: its hard being green" had me in stitches and sent me on my way with a big grin on my face that lasted the rest of the day.
As if to make it just that little bit cooler, the box its self keeps me entertained, although I do have the mind of a five year old at times. Its got a rather snazzy hologram on the front that flips between the Atlantis team and one of the evil life sucking wraith.
The one dislike I have about this box set is the plastic cover it comes in. It gets in the way a LOT and I have a lot of trouble getting it on and off without leaving little dents on the side of the box (if you are anything near as fanatical as me then this is a major issue! I want my DVDs looking as good as they can!!) You can't really throw it away as it has the shows name and a little detail to add to the underlying picture on the box.
Oh and before I forget, the Good Doctor Carson. He annoys me a little. I know he (the actor and the character) was born in Scotland but that doesn't give him the right to make a complete balls up of the accent! (I'm Scottish, I know) In saying that it wont distract anyone but the Scots and even I am now learning to love it!
Overall a great box set, a great show, and great value for money as far as box sets go!

...idea, spin off series from Stargate SG1. A highly successful series with a cult following.
Set in a new galaxy, led by a civilian, with a young cast. This gives it more of the family element, but risks losing some of the cult following.
The new galaxy element gives it, essentially, the same premise as SG1 - use the Stargates to explore, and battle with a sinister enemy.
Introducing the Wraith - the species that forced the Ancients to leave this ... ...good idea?)
Thankfully for the fans, the main elememts of the show stay true to the original - meeting new races with their own experiences of the Wraith, forming alliances, making enemies (since awakening the Wraith, the teams are often the bringers of bad news for worlds unprepared for an attack so soon.), and fighting the universal enemy; all while trying to find power modules to keep Atlantis safe and protect the only gate to Earth.
They have ...

Advantages: Strong, young cast, excellent offshoot from SG-1 Disadvantages: a little less serious than SG-1
I have watched Stargate since the first Movie, and then religiously throughout the SG-1 Series'. After Falling in love with such characters as Gen. Jack O'Neil, and Samantha Carter, as well as the lovable Daniel Jackson, and Teal'c, I wondered whether I might be able to watch a spin off of such a complex and engrossing show.
The first thing of note about Stargate Atlantis is it's young cast, our main character and military leader of the expedition ... ...under the Auspices of Team Stargate Atlantis, a project run by a civilian, Dr Weir. This non-military (or at least shared control) concept really gives a family feel to the project, and the dynamic is different to that of SG-1, hopefully broadening it's potential audience.
The storyline is based on research from the original series leading to the finding of the ancient homeworld of the Lantians, Atlantis. The explorers take a journey to the Pegasus ...

Advantages: Amazing storys Disadvantages: Have to watch sg1 to understand it better
Stargate Atlantis Is the new show by MGM and has been an amazing hit with fans from SG1 which has now finished but Stargate Atlantis can carry on the legacy as it has an amazing story line and new and interesting plots and surprises.
The cast consists of:
Lt. Colonel John Sheppard
Dr. Rodney McKay
Teyla Emmagan
Dr. Elizabeth Weir
Dr. Carson Beckett Ronon Dex
These characters are younger than the cast in Stargate sg1 and is more for the younger ... ...more cooler look than the Gauld who have been getting a bit repeative in the show.
Overall this show is a big success and will last as long as Stargate sg1 did :)
This is a great show for all ages and you should take a look. ...

DVD Description
A team of scientists and military personnel is dispatched to the distant Pegasus galaxy to explore the remnants of the Lost City of the Ancients also known as Atlantis, in this first series of the STARGATE SG-1 spin-off. The Ancients were an advanced human race that initially created the Stargate network, and diplomat Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) and pilot Major John Sheppherd (Joe Flanigan) head the international squad that is sent to investigate. The team arrives at Atlantis to find the city abandoned and their ship permanently stranded, unless they can find a power source to get themselves home to earth. They make contact with a brave but primitive native civilisation as well as with the evil Wraith, a species that feeds on fear and, it quickly becomes clear, poses a threat to human life everywhere. Sheppard's brash, instinctive nature contrasts with the calm thoughtfulness of Dr. Weir, and their team is rounded out by Sheppard's second-in-command Lt. Aidan Ford, witty Scottish doctor Carson Beckett, Pegasus native leader Teyla Emmagen, and inimitable scientist Rodney McKay. The 20 episodes of the first season have the Stargate team feeling their way around this dangerous new galaxy and interacting with its varied inhabitants, while being forced to work as a team and learn more about each.
