I did want to see this at the cinemas when I saw if first come out, except I was too busy and I couldn't arrange anything, so I waited for it to be released on DVD, but still that was expensive so I waited and waited until it became 3 for £20 in HMV and we managed 2 other DVDs to go with it, and bought it.
This film is a great film, its tag-line is: The fairy tale that won't behave. To be totally honest that doesn't help anyone really, and it's not much of a fairy tale to be totally honest!
I didn't know, until recently, that it is an adaptation from the book of the same name, knowing this now, I plan to try and find it, hopefully it'll be cheap, and buy it. You'll have to wait for a review on it, however, as I have too many books and DVDs to review, I really don't know how I'll get through them all, but I do know I'll get to the end eventually.
This film happens to be directed by: Matthew Vaughn
Matthew is a film director and a producer; he produced this film and quite a few others, which I do not recognise apart from "Layer Cake". He has only directed 3 films: "Layer Cake", This film, and "Kick-Ass (out in 2009)", I am pretty sure he's becoming a more famous director as he has directed a new film that's coming out soon, let's just
hope it's as good as Stardust.
This film has an all-star cast; you should recognise about 2-3 names or maybe all of them!
Tristan Thorn is played by Charlie Cox, who is a new actor, however I recognise quite a few films he's been in such as: "Things to Do before Your 30" he played "Danny", "The Merchant of Venice" as "Lorenzo", "Casanova" as "Giovanni". He has been in a TV Series called "Lewis" and he played as "Danny".
Yvaine is played by Clair Danes, she has been in quite a few films, she even starred next to Leonardo DiCaprio in the film: "Romeo & Juliet" she played "Juliet Capulet", she has also been in "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" she played "Kate Brewster", and she has also been in "The Flock" she played "Allison".
Lamia is played by the famous Michelle Pfeiffer. She has been in lots of films, and I shall just list them: "Grease 2", "Scarface", "Batman Returns", "What Lies Beneath", "A Midsummer's Night Dream", "Hairspray" (There's a sequel coming out soon YAY).
Captain Shakespeare is played by Robert De Niro, who is another famous actor, so I shall list a few films I recognise: "Taxi Driver", "The Adventures Of Rocky and Bullwinkle", "Meet The Parents", "Shark Tale", "Meet The Fockers", "Arthur and the Invisibles", and lots of others.
There are quite a few other famous stars such as Ricky Gervais and Rupert Everett; however I'm sure you are pretty bored already and would like my opinions on the DVD, so I've decided to carry on with my review.
The plot is really magical, it starts by Tristan wanting to "woo" a girl, but the only way to do so is by giving the star to her, the star that did shoot across the sky the night before. So he sets out to do so, he even went OVER THE WALL a place you should never go to. He finds the Star first, but she's a person called Yvaine. But Tristan isn't the only one who wants the star, there's the 3 princes who need it to become King, and then there are the 3 witches who need the star to revive their life. One wicked witch sets out on her quest (played by Michelle Pfeiffer. She manages to steal the Star, but can she kill her before Tristan gets her back? Will the one of the princes grab the star? Will Tristan find more than the star? And will he get the girl of his dreams? Or Better?
Find the answers to these questions in this very magical film.
I would call this film a brilliant Family film; everyone will like different bits of the film. I really enjoyed the intensity, when one person gets Yvaine, but it's not long until someone steals her. Also, at the start, you are on the princes' side as they need the star more, but you know you'll eventually go on Tristan's side as he is the main character. The witches are evil and you know you will not be on their side. Michelle Pfeiffer should have won an award for her acting, it was incredible. She'll be brilliant if she became more of an evil character in most films. It makes her look superior and it really shows off her acting really well. The special effects really, made you become part of the film, but there were a lot of parts that you thought impossible to imagine, like how on earth can a ship fly in the clouds? it's quite unbelievable, but Children would prefer that bit over the adults in the family as they can dream and believe anything, when the adults know that special effects made it and it seriously wasn't that good of the use of the specially effects, you could tell it was done with the "blue Screen" effect.
There is hardly any special features there is only Commentary by Writer and Director Matthew Vaughn and Writer Jane Goldman, which was pretty boring if you asked me (I acturally watched this, is that really surprising you?)
I hope you enjoyed this review, I'm hoping to get lots of comments helping me to improve. A lot of people have told me that they prefer my reviews when there is less actor/actress profiles, when I miss them out because I'm tired or don't have the time, others say they miss having them, what d you think? Would you like me to keep them in or get rid of them?
I hope to see more reviews written on this DVD, as everyone deserves to watch this!

Sounds like a fun film. I do like your including actor profiles in the reviews, they're helpful in seeing if the film includes an actor or actress I like who I may not recognise by name but may ring a bell if their other films are mentioned.

I think that short actor profiles are a nice touch; especially including films you may have seen them in that are similar to the one you're reviewing. People may have liked their acting style, and may be looking for another film of a certain genre with their favourite actor in it. Great review!
