Stardust is a film which was mainly bought to my attention by the song by Take That, before hearing the song I really had not seen or heard much about the film but once I knew the song I seemed to be noticing it everywhere.

THE PLOT

The film is based around Tristan, played by Charlie Cox, who is in love with a beautiful girl from his village. She is due to get engaged to another man and so Tristan tries to get her to change her mind. As he is talking to her they see a falling star and he promises to collect it and return it to her for her birthday which is in one weeks time.

The star was knocked out of the sky by a necklace which the dying King threw when he proclaimed that the successor to his throne will be the one who makes the ruby in the necklace shine again. The fallen star is wearing the necklace and knows nothing about this.

In order to collect the fallen star, Tristan must first cross the wall but there is a guard there stopping him so when he returns home and tells his father about this he reveals the truth about his mother and how he once crossed the wall which resulted in him meeting a lady and nine months later Tristan being dropped on his doorstep. Tristan is given a letter which his mother wrote to him and inside is a magical candle which will help him find her, all he has to do is light the candle and think about hr and he will be taken straight there. Tristan lights the candle but starts to think about the fallen star and is magically taken to it.

When he arrives at the place where the star fell he discovers that the star is actually a very pretty girl, they agree to make their way back to his village and in return Tristan will give her the last bit of the magical candle so she can go home.

Unbeknown to Tristan there is a wicked witch, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, who is after Yvaine (The fallen star), played by Claire Danes, as she needs to cut her heart out so she will be able to become young again.

The pair set off on their way back to the other side of the wall but they are placed in danger as the wicked with and the remaining sons of the dead king are after them.

Will Tristan and Yvaine make it back to the wall or will they be captured.

MY OPINION

I thoroughly enjoyed this film from start to finish.

The actors all played their parts exceptional well and I have to say that personally I found Robert DeNiro to be by far the best and funniest in the film, he play the captain of a flying ship collection lightening and he is trying to put on a butch appearance for his crew but he is secretly enjoying the life of dressing up as a woman. His portrayal of this character really did make me laugh.

The other surprise actor in the film for me was Ricky Gervais, I really don't like this man and don't find him remotely funny and thankfully he was only given a very small part as I don't think I could have watched much more of him on screen.

The characters all worked well on screen and made me believe in their characters.

I was surprised when I read on the cover that this film had very funny parts in it as from what the trailers I had seen I did not think it was but I do have to agree with the quotes on the DVD as this did make me laugh out loud in places.

The film had a very good soundtrack and the songs were all relevant to the places they were played. I also made a much better connection with the Take That track, Rule the World which is played at the end of the film after I had watched the entire film as all of the words and lyrics fitted in.

EXTRAS

The DVD which I have has extras on which include:-

Good Omens - The making of Stardust
Blooper Reel
Deleted scenes
Theatrical Trailer

I really cannot comment on the extras as I just have not got round to watching them yet. If I do ever get around to this then I will update this review giving more detail on them.

INFO

The film was made in 2007 by Paramount Pictures. It was produced by Jane Goldman and Matthew Vaughn. It was directed by Matthew Vaughn.

The DVD cover for my copy of the film does not have an age certificate but I would personally feel that a child of the age of 10 may find this very enjoyable.

The film runs for 122 minutes which is just about long enough, I feel I would have started getting bored and wanting to get on with other things if it had been any longer.

I purchased my copy of the film in Sainsburys for £12 but the price does vary from shop to shop so be sure to look around for a bargain.

I would Highly recommend this film to all.
