I have just gotten around to watching this film today and was actually amazed that there were reviews already.
I'm 16 and PG always tends to put me off watching films but I decided I'd go as it was something to do, I loved it.
I think the main reason I loved this movie was because of the amazing actors that were involved and the new actors that shone brightly in it (no pun intended). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Plot
The film starts in a small village of Wall, a village which gets its name from the wall surrounding it. When young Dunstan Thorne decides to cross this wall he finds a doorway between England and the magical kingdom of Stormhold.
There he meets a princess, who is captured by a witch and will only be free when the witch is dead. He arrives back in Wall and 9 months later he gets a present from the princess, a baby boy called Tristan.
18 years later Tristan has fallen in love with Victoria. On the week before her birthday they see a fallen star arrive on the other side of the wall and she says she'll marry him if he retrieves that star for her, before her birthday.
He uses the candle of Babylon,
which he got from his mother and finds the fallen star he was looking for, but with only one catch, she's fully alive and talking and Tristan tries to take her back to wall, but along the way they are stopped by people in Stormhold that want the fallen star. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Actors
I myself thought the acting in the film was brilliant, through the first hour or so you think the lead is another Orlando Bloom, a floppy haired actor who shames us British people when he acts but Charlie Cox was surprisingly good. He receives a new hair-do throughout the middle of the film and his persona just changes and you actually begin to see the great actor behind the Orlando Bloom likeness.
Claire Danes has always been a good actress in my eyes, like most people the first film I watched with her in was the wonderful Romeo & Juliet, but she has matured so much. She was the star of this movie; she did truly shine like only good stars do. She plays Yvaine, the fallen star who wants to get back home, the only way to do so is follow Tristan and go back to Wall.
Robert De Niro was another good actor in the film, I'm not always going to imagine him in drag now. He plays a gay pirate, who pretends to be evil for his reputation.
Michelle Pheifer was a bit of a disappointment in my eyes, I didn't think she delivered as well as the others did and was just quite terrible as the witch who goes looking for her star to make herself look younger.
There were some great cameo's in this film, Ricky Gervais like usual was fantastic, very funny. If you look closely David Walliams is throughtout the whole film as the princes brother's and is very funny like usual.
Rupert Everett like usual was a waste of time as one of the last remaining brothers, it was lovely to see him get pushed off the side of the cliff.
I haven't even mentioned Victoria played by Sienna Miller, I don't think I've actually seen a film in with her that she's not outshone by so many other people. I know she was supposed to be playing the snotty little princess but she could have given a much better performance than the one she gave. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Animation
With Disney films you do always expect some animation especially with magic, but there is scarcely any in this film. The flying boat doesn't do anything really, the only thing I think that worked throughout the whole film with the animation was the shining.
When Yvaine was happy she shone, it was ever so slightly but it really worked throughout the film to show her moods especially around Tristan. This was only a slight animation but I think it was really perfect and set the whole film. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Trivia
Sarah Michelle Gellar was supposed to play Yvainne and young Alex Pettyfer was supposed to play Tristan. Now that would have been a weird casting, I just don't think Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Alex Rider would have worked and the fact that she's almost 30 and he's only a year older than me (17) I'm really glad they decided to recast. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Memorable Quotes
Narrator: A philosopher once asked, "Are we human because we gaze at the stars, or do we gaze at them because we are human?" Pointless, really..."Do the stars gaze back?" Now *that's* a question.
Yvaine: What do stars do? They shine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Cast
Charlie Cox- Tristan Thorne Claire Danes- Yvaine Michelle Pfeiffer- Lamia Robert De Niro- Captian Shakespeare Mark Strong- Prince Septimus Ian Mckellan- narrator Sienna Miller- Victoria Henry Cavill- Humphrey Ricky Gervais- Ferdy The Fence ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Story behind The Magic
Neil Gaiman wrote the original book which was written in four volumes, it was adapted into a screenplay by Matthew Vaughn & Jane Goldman, who is actually Jonathan Ross's wife. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Soundtrack
I don't know much about the soundtrack, all I know is the theme song at the end sent me running out of the cinema. Take That like usual ruin this beautiful film. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Other
This film is not just for kids, I was stupid to make that assumption but I really enjoyed it. It may have been too predictable for words but the film itself was beautiful and well acted.
It's only just been released at the cinema, so if you want to see a film it should be this.
For you ladies out there, Charlie Cox is gorgeous.
Thanks for reading.

(Sorry about my slaming of Orlando Bloom, Take That & Rupert Everett, I know lots of people like them but as you can tell I don't).
