Star Wars - The Original Trilogy (DVD)

Star Wars is one of the most well known series of all time. With six movies in total they split up into two sets of 3 each following two different generations of the Skywalker family. The first three being about Anakin Skywalker and the second three about Luke Skywalker. The three movies in this set are A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

A New Hope

This film follows the beginning of Luke Skywalker's ...
...is captured by the Death Star and attempt to rescue the Princess. Obi Wan has to face his enemy Darth Vader who killed Luke skywalker's father. Obi Wan allows himself to be killed in order to return later to help Luke.

The six remaining people fly to the Rebel Alliance base and plan an attack strike on the Death Star.

The first three being about Anakin Skywalker and the second three about Luke Skywalker. The three movies in this set are A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

A New Hope

This film follows the beginning of Luke Skywalker's discovery that his father was a Jedi. It begins with the crazy duo C3PO and R2D2 on a mission to find Ben Kenobi (Obi Wan Kenobi) on the remote planet of Tatooine after Princess Leia's ship is captured.

Obi Wan Kenobi has to deliver the R2 unit to the planet of Alderan so the plans for the ultimate weapon can be examined. Obi Wan now a very old man knows that he cannot deliver the plans himself and so asks Luke to help him. At first Luke refuses but after his Aunt and Uncle are killed by Stormtroopers he has nothing to live for and so accepts.

The four then travel to Mos Eisley spaceport and find two shifty charactors Han Solo and Chewbacca who agree to take them to Alderan for a fee. On the way their ship is captured by the Death Star and attempt to rescue the Princess. Obi Wan has to face his enemy Darth Vader who killed Luke skywalker's father. Obi Wan allows himself to be killed in order to return later to help Luke.

The Empire Strikes Back

After the destruction of the Death Star the Empire are very angry an launch an attack on the Rebel Alliance ice planet Hoth. The Rebels manage to escape. Han Solo, Chewy, Leia and C3PO make it out on the Millenium Falcon and Luke and R2 make their way to Dagobah on an X wing to find Yoda the last remaining Jedi Master to complete his training.

The four on the Falcon make their way to Bespin where one of Han's old friends is the leader. Han and the team land on the floating city in order to repair their ship not knowing that the Empire has already landed there are set a trap for Luke which will use the 4 people as bait. Han is frozen and given to Boba Fett (son of Jango Fett) a bounty hunter who will take him to Jabba the Hutt.

Luke senses his friends in danger and makes his way to the trap disobeying Yoda and Obi Wan Kenobi who has returned as an immortal. Luke gets to Bespin and faces his enemy Darth Vader for a one on one light saber fight. Luke loses a hand and finds out a terrible truth about Darth Vader when Vader says the classic line "I am your father". Luke resists his father's offer the rule the galaxy and escapes managing to get onto the Millenium Falcon.

Return of the Jedi

Luke makes his way to Tatooine again to rescue Han Solo from Jabba the Hutt. He uses his new Jedi powers to manipulate the guards at the palace to make his way into the complex. He rescues Han Solo and Leia whose own resue plan failed.

Luke makes his way back to Dagobah to complete his training where he realises that he already has. Yoda now getting on a bit goes to sleep for the last time and dies leaving Luke the last remaining Jedi.

The team then all meet again back in space near to the next Death Star which i s now more heavily defended. The shield has to be disabled on the planet of Endor where Leia finds the Eewoks who help the Rebel Alliance team destroy the shield generator.

The main ships then attack and attempt to destroy the death star. Meanwhile Luke has turned himself into Darth Vader and the Emporer. He is then forced to fight his father in which he almost kills him. When Luke refuses to finish off his father the Emporer shows him the true power of the dark side in which force enduced lightning almost kills Luke. As Luke is about to die Darth Vader realises there is still good in him and kills the Emporer. Luke then tries to save his father but it is too late. Darth Vader tells Luke to take off his helmet so he can see his son with his own eyes before dying.

Actors

Most of the actors in this movie made their career from Star Wars. The most well known actor would of course be Harrison Ford (Han Solo). But other actors include Carrie Fisher (Leia) who has been in some tv serieses such as Family Guy, Smallville and also appeared in Austin Powers.

Effects

The special effects of the original three where of course a bit lame. But you can't really blame the fim makers because the films where just made so long ago. In 20 years time we will look back at the effects in the more recent films and think they are bad.

However although the effects were very bad the new dvds have been updated and graphics have been updated. New scenes including flying ships and even the scene right at the end have been modified or aven added. When you see the three blue figures of the jedi Anakin Skywalker from the third movie takes the place of the old one.

Overall

To conclude the whole series has been a great success and although you may not like the graphics you should buy this set of dvds and enjoy watching these amazing movies again and again.
