Star Wars: A New Hope was the first film of the he original trilogy, this film was originally called just Star Wars but later got changed to Star Wars: A New Hope due to the sequels being released. This film was released on the 27 December 1977 in the UK and was directed and written by the young George Lucas, this was one of his first major films to had been produced.
Audiences around the world were amazed by the stunning special effects and is meant to be one of the most important films ever made.
Since 1997 the original trilogy has been completed, containing; A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return Of The Jedi. Also the new trilogy which is the three movies set before the original trilogy, this trilogy contains of; The Phantom Menace, Attack Of The Clones and The Revenge Of The Sith. Also there is filming happening now for a spin of television series which shall be released in 2009.
** Luke Skywalker **
Luke Skywalker is the hero in the original trilogy. We first see him in A New Hope, the film that I am studding. Luke's them
is called the Classic Star Wars Theme as it is used so much.
Luke is recognisable shown as the hero when he destroys the death star in A New Hope. Earlier on in the film he is given a blue lightsaber, it is blue which means he is on the light side which is the good side.
You first see Luke Skywalker coming out of his house Tatooine with his theme song playing.
Luke Skywalker's costume is mainly all white, I think this reflects what side he is on, which the light side. He also wears a belt which has got a pocket to put his lightsaber in.
Princess Leia is one of the good people in the movie. The audience first see her on board a ship which has just been invaded by the dark side, she is seen trying to transmit a message for help by using R2D2.
She has also got a theme called Princess Leia's Theme, this theme is meant to be romantic. This theme is used in the episodes; III, IV, V and VI when Princess Leia appears.
Princess dresses in all white like Luke, I think this reflects what side she is on just like Luke's costume.
By the end of the film you see she gets more confident.
** Darth Vader **
Darth Vader is the main villein in the trilogy. The audience first see Darth Vader in a dramatic opening scene where a space ship is getting invaded, you see lots of clone troopers around him then he enters with lots of smoke.
Darth Vader has his own theme, it is called the Imperial Motif, this theme is also associated with the dark side and is also played when Grand Moff Tarkin appears.
Darth Vader is played by David Prowse and is voiced by James Earl Jones.
Darth Vader's costume is all black, I think this reflects that he is on the dark side. He is wearing a black helmet with a black cape.
The camera angles are used really well when focusing on Darth Vader. They are used so it makes him look important.
Obi-Won/Ben Kenobe The audience first see Obi-Won saving Luke from an attack from the sandmen. You see him appear from behind some rocks wearing a light brown cloak with a hood which is covering his face while mysterious music is playing in the background.
Obi-Won can also be thought of a guardian to Luke because he guides Luke to his true path in life by giving him the gift of a lightsaber.
Obi-Won has got his own theme tune it is called the Force Theme, this theme is also used in many important scenes in the film.
Obi-Won has a white under layer with a brown cloak over the top and with a brown belt with a pocket to hold his lightsaber.
At the end of A New Hope You see Obi-Won and Darth Vader having a fight with lightsaber but towards the end of the fight Luke sees them fighting and Obi-Won puts his lightsaber away and bows his head and Darth Vader kills him.
** Han Solo **
Han Solo is first introduced in a scene in Tatooine in a bar.
Han Solo is not really on a side, he just helps out with Luke to rescue the princess because he thinks he will get a lot of money so then he can pay his debts of.
Han Solo wears a white t-shirt with a black waste coat, I think shows that you are not sure what side this is on .
Han Solo is played by Harrison Ford, this was one of his first major films and later went on to do the Indiana Jones trilogy.
This character does not really have a theme tune.
Han Solo is normally with his assistant Chewbaca.
** C3PO and R2D2 **
You first see C3PO and R2D2 in the opening scene where the ship is being invaded by the dark side.
C3P0 and R2D2 are both droids that help Luke on his quest.
C3PO is played by Anthony Daniels and R2D2 is mechanical controlled and voiced.
C3PO is wearing a bronze colour coating and R2D2 is white and blue.
R2D2 and C3PO don't have an particular theme in this film.
