How could they make a film of such magnitude tie up to a film made in 1976-77, well they did and I may be writing this review through a storm troopers mask not rose coloured glasses but I loved it.
Regardless of the special effects imagine what time and detail it took to create the step between the clone wars and star wars a new hope.
The story had to fit and you had to be able to believe it the designs of the ships had to have moved on and to look as though they were metemorphesising into x wing fighters in the original film yet look as though there was a bit of progression needed.
In the film it is about 18 years before star wars is set enough time for Luke to grow up and Darth Vader to get a bad reputation across the galaxy.
They have learnt from the errors of Jar Jar Binks and created an excellent character in general grievous, but the whole package is good but maybe for the ending, of Obe wan delivering the children to people he hadn't met or didn't know.
Everyone knows star wars and if they haven't seen it know of a character such as R2-D2 who in this film has a comedy role and sound.
The billon dollar franchise that is star wars has ended on a high note in my eyes it did what it set out to do and what we all wanted to see, and after nearly 30 years we see how Darth Vader came to be.
Not because of his twisted dealings with a sith lord or the dark side of
the force but for the love and need to protect his pregnant wife and baby(s).
The art of creating a film that has to smoothly take you to the beginning of a film that is 30 years old is a task a phenomenal task and I think they just about did it.
The special effects were (pardon the pun) out of this world with one of the best sci-fi battle scenes ever created at the beginning of the film, general grievous and the altering of the emperor could only be done in this hit-tech age un thinkable when the originals were made.
I felt after watching the film a bit of an anti climax not in anyway to do with the film but to realise that was the end we know how the greatest space villain came to be and how different it was from what we thought.
He wasn't pure evil and there was still good in him all played out to near perfection, although you only see Darth for a few minutes it's the best teaser for your imagination to run riot and think of what the two dark lords got up to for 18 years.
It would be good to have a film showing the taking over of the galaxy and Vader running amok, entwined with the growing up of the skywalker twins, but I only live in hope.
In the film watch out for the cameo of the millennium falcon landing when Anakin and Obe wan fly back after crash landing, and for a blue George Lucas on the landing of the stairs when the two dark siders meet in the theatre.
George Lucas's daughter also make a blue faced appearance when Anakin is meet by all the dignitaries, another appearance you may not know about is Boba Fett (Jeremy Bullock) as the Pilot of the ship with Obe Wan, Mace Windu and Yoda talking about the prophecy.
All little fun things you should be aware of, there are more Light sabre fights in this film then ever before with Count Duku (Christopher Lee) dieing at the hands of Ankin while saving Palpetine.
The best part of the film is for me Yoda's entrance how he dispatches the two Re guards with a flick of the hand is unbelievable just before he fights with the emperor.
Chewbacca makes an appearance on Kyyshk little did we know in the original films chewy knew Yoda a great little spin of the story.
Although I may have given some of the story line away or maybe it all you have just got to watch this film, it may have been better but the results are the same, a dark story entwined with a love story entwined with a good versus evil story with a few out there moments.
An out there moment is the courage of the younglings or young Jedi's fighting against the twisted Anakin, and the tragedy when Obe wan realises there was no way back for his apprentice and he must kill him.
Know the moral of the story is the prophecy was right but they had the wrong generation, technically Anakin did bring the force into balance by producing offspring, mainly Luke to be the return of the Jedi.
For a story unless you know you would probably lose it but understanding all the lines of the story is good fun, think yeah I can see that as it would connect into the next film.
All in all a very well done film that leaves you dumfounded that the story has come full circle and the final part of the puzzle which is the main part now fits snugly.
Please watch this film it is great entertainment and a must for even the weakest of star wars fans.
I must state in this DVD set you get an out takes and extras CD with over a good couple of hours worth of stuff on it although I have neglected to watch it yet I believ there is a scene where Sidious murders a female Jedi infront of Obe wan.
I must watch the extras diisc soon.
I have now watched the extras disc, wich features cut clips from the original film and sub plots.
There are the screen shots and teaser trailers from the roll up to the film and adverts for toys and computer games.
The extra clips are not as long as I expected but do wtch out for Yoda making his way to degobah, and the scene involving Grievous killing a captured Jedi infront of Obe wan and Anakin.
The clips and the disk are good to see but I can see why some of the clips were cut, I bet there are more cut bits due to come out later on special additions CD's as the content on this disk is farless the previous extras discs for star wars films.
Still a good film and very much worth a look at

I think you need to change this to a "Film Only" review, as it's suggesting this is a DVD review at present and you've not mentioned the DVD at all.
