The set comes in the stylish silver and purple box that the previous 2 sets came in and looks very swish on the shelf next to the others. The case resembles something Star Trek like, futuristic metal in appearance and totally cool! The Trek Logo is on the sides of the box and the number three on the edge so you can see it immediately when reaching for it on the shelf, below STAR TREK THE NEXT GENERATION down the side in caps.
The case opens from the top to expose a silver box - DVD size - inside a purple inlay with STAR TREK and the logo embossed onto it.
The box is in fact a sleeve when you take it out and inside the sleeve are the DVDs. These are nicely packaged inside a case holding all 7 disks which fold out to show you all of them at the same time. Underneath the DVDs in the box is a booklet with info on all of the episodes and a quick synopsis.
The Season three episodes are :
1. Evolution 2. The Ensigns Of Command 3. The Survivors 4. Who Watches The Watchers 5. The Bonding 6. Booby Trap 7. The Enemy
A classic story where two enemies stranded together and have to cope with the situation. Geordie is stuck with a Romulan officer on a dangerous planet whilst another battle is possible for the Enterprise back up in orbit.
8. The Price 9. The Vengance Factor 10. The Defector 11. The Hunted 12. The High Ground 13. Deja Q
This is the episode where Q forgoes all of his powers and claims he is now just like any human. Mortal. We see how he and the crew cope with his antics.
14. A Matter Of Perspective 15. Yesterday's Enterprise 16. The Offspring 17. Sins Of The Father 18. Allegiance 19. Captain's Holiday 20. Tin Man
This episode, like most of the others, has a poignant message.
21. Hollow Pursuits 22. The Most Toys 23. Sarek 24. Menage A Troi 25. Transfigurations 26. The Best of Both Worlds (Part 1)
The Borg captures Picard and he becomes one of them! Battling against the Enterprise he is in there somewhere and it is up to the crew to get him back!
I won't give the synopses for all of the episodes because you will just get bored but I will say that this series was, for me, where The Next Generation started to come into its own. The best of both worlds (Part 1) leaves you wanting to see the next episode and relly leaves you on the edge of a cliff. We have a Q episode and a Borg Episode in this series adding some humour as well as serious nasty baddy style action too! We start to look into the character's backgrounds and get to know them a little more.
Disk 7 includes special features including behind the scenes looks at the making of the series, memorable moments from the episodes and interviews with cast members.
The DVDs introduction is like being on a ship with ship sounds playing in the background. Through a stereo or on surround it is great! (I know, I am a weird trekkie person!)
You can change audio settings, jump chapters, search chapters and the usual things you can do with DVDs.
The DVD sets were initially around £80 to buy but have plummeted in price now as it has been a few years since release. They were put together and released here in the UK in 2002/2003. www.play.com now has this series for a fantastic £34.99 with free P+P!
As a start trek fan I am going to be biased about this set. But, I will say that it is a fantastic set for a Star Trek fan as it has all of the season's episodes in one place, it makes up a part of a set but would stand alone as well (apart from the fact that the last episode is in two parts and the next part is in set 4!)
