This season of DeepSpaceNine is one of my all time favourites with some excellent episodes. Set in the year 2371 with the dominion emerging as a force that will have to be reckoned with. Some brilliant episodes, the best I think being Past Tense which is a double episode, where Sisko, Jadzia and Bashir are stuck back on earth in the year 2024 where the idea of what happens if the government and the people just put all the unemployed and people affected by mental health in cities shut out from the rest of the world and conviently forgotten about! Another great episode is Facets with Dax gets to meet her previous hosts, which creates an interesting character for Odo to become! Two episodes with special guest appearances, Jonathan Frakes returns as Will Riker in one and the delightful Lwaxana Troi returns for an episode with Odo ...
Advantages: The end of season episodes..always with a bang! Disadvantages: The middle seasons lack the bite of later ones
DeepSpaceNine caused some scandal when it first came onto our screens...why you ask? Well in essence StarTrek was always about a star ship, travelling off around the galaxy and having adventures. In this series, the crew are all aboard a space station, which is positioned at the mouth of a worm hole...allowing travel to the other side of the galaxy (the gamma quadrant) in a matter of minutes...cool eh!
DeepSpacenine enjoys a strong cast and covers a wide range of issues as is common in the start trek genre, of particular interest in the early seasons is the planet of Bajor and its relationship with the United Federation of Planets after a long occupation from the Cardassians. SHould they join the Federation or go for independence...It is thrilling stuff and almost reminiscent of the struggles that Eastern block countries have had ...
Advantages: An excellent final season to a fantastic series. Disadvantages: Leaves you wanting more, but sadly, this is it!
.
A couple of criticisms for this season, the first being Vic Fontaine, previously mentioned already. I felt the actual ending itself was too quick. They easily could have wrapped things up a bit better with a little more detail had they just got rid of the Vic Fontaine screen time. It seemed as though the final battle is fought, then there is a sort of montage and everyone having a drink, with Vic of course, and then finished.
Otherwise, you don't need me to tell you, if you like StarTrek, if you like DeepSpaceNine, this is the best season and thoroughly enjoyable.
Biggest criticism is that it ended, I wanted more, still do!
Thanks for reading and K'Plah ...
