Star Trek.... well... first of all... I have not even seen the tv series (original or the next frontier) or have i seen ANY movies. (well 1/4 of a movie and i'll say.... i got parts of the movie i saw but not much (FYI it was Star Trek: Nemesis).
Moving to my point....
Star Trek....
Was....
The Worst film if you dispised all actions and thrillers, but one of the BEST films of the decade if you love actions and thrillers like me!
I was actually worried that I wouldn't get the plot of the film, but surprisingly enough, I did and i really enjoyed the film.
WARNING: Like all my reviews, I reveal the beginning, so if you do not wish to know, please just scroll past the next two paragraphs.
As the USS Kelvin becomes attacked by the Narada (a Romulan mining ship), all the crew members evacuate. The current captain is asked to leave the USS Kelvin and board the Narada, or else Kelvin will perish. As he does so, he leaves George Kirk as captain. The crew detect his distress signal, and they realise that the old captain is dead, and the Narada continue to destroy Kelvin. But as all the crew evacuate, George stays behind, leaving his wife and his newly born son, James, to live their lives without him. The crew steer away from Kelvin and George who purpously collides with the Narada ship to provide cover for the crew, who manage to escape.
Many years later, James Kirk is now living his life as an adult, but after a fight, he meets with Captain Christopher Pike. He tells him about his father and how he spent 12 minutes as the captain of the Kelvin and wishes that James become a recruit of the Starfleet Academy. He is soon urged into it, and three years later, he is a top grader. But soon, he is caught to have cheated in the Kobayashi Maru test, programmed by Commander Spock. Starfleet soon recieve a distress signal from Vulcan and James is relieved from duty for the time being. But with the help of his medical friend Leonard, he is smuggled onto the USS Enterprise and the battle between the Starfleet and the Romulan ship, the Narada, begins!
Cast Chris Pine as James T. Kirk Zachary Quinto as Spock Eric Bana as Captain Nero Karl Urban as Dr. Leonard McCoy Zoe Saldaña as Nyota Uhura Bruce Greenwood as Christopher Pike John Cho as Hikaru Sulu Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov Simon Pegg as Montgomery Scott Leonard Nimoy as Future Spock (who also portrayed Spock from the original series)
One thing that got me right up until I looked it up, I kept thinking to myself... was it really Eric Bana i saw portray Nero? I thought: YES! I KNEW IT! - as soon as i found out :) Chuffed xD
Even if you have not seen anything of Star Trek, you better get to the cinema and watch it before it leaves or you will regret waiting for 4-5 months for the DVD. The special effects are amazing and it stays true to the series, and I mean that, it stays true. I didn't see the series but i watched Bring Back... Star Trek, and I learned many things from it, so I KNOW it stays true :)
I am really looking forward to the sequel and i strongly believe that Star Trek should recieve much more credit that it already has. I predict at the end of it all, it will just surpass $300,000,000 when it SHOULD be making more than that from a much beloved series. It has made, world wide, over its Production Budget, which was $150,000,000, but the creators of this film DESERVE PROFIT! They have made a fantastic masterpeice.
Rating: 5/5 (6/5 if i could. One of the best films of the decade!)
The film was released 8 May 2009 in the USA, 7 May 2009 in Australia and 8 May 2009 in the United Kingdom.

Advantages: Great cast, brilliant action and special effects to keep you glued to your seat Disadvantages: Quick paced so I found it a little difficult to keep up with

Review of Star Trek
Advantages: Good plot, strong cast, delightful nods at Star Trek mythology Disadvantages: As a villian Nero is rather one-dimensional. Not Bana's strongest performance.
