While I think it's unfair to compare insurrection to First Contact, the main reason being that the borg are the scariest, realest and most disturbing alien that Star Trek ever produced and only one film can have them so it's not faiir to compare it to other films when it has the advantage before the start.
Insurrection keeps the Star Trek series of films among the better half, but at the same time doesn't exactly light any fires as it goes, the special effects are notably good and the Enterprise going through the mank in space is quite spectacular, and the explosions look real enough to blow your socks off.
The humour aspect in the film was well done, bringing a new aspect to the Trek films rarely seen before, although I can't help feeling that this is just a device trying to stop us noticing that the plot isn't exactly the most gripping ever seen. Eternal life on one planet, decaying 400 year olds who want to live longer on the other, you get the picture.
Patrick Stewart is amzing in the film as he always is and for the most part the acting is above par, remarkable for Star Trek, but in the end, the film is good, but not incredible, a worthy look if you're a star trek fan, and if you're not, well, go watch it anyway.
