expedition may interfere with the natural development of other civilisations. But now Picard is confronted with orders that undermine that decree. If he obeys, 600 peaceful residents of Ba?ku will be forcibly removed from their remarkable world, all for the reportedly greater good of millions who will benefit from Ba?ku?s Fountain of Youth-like powers. If he disobeys, he will risk his Starship, his career, his life. But for Picard, there's really only one choice. He must rebel against Starfleet... and lead the insurrection to preserve paradise.

feature in Paramount's lucrative Trek franchise, but die-hard loyalists will appreciate the way thisNext Generationadventure rekindles the spirit of the originalStar TrekTV series while combining a tolerable dose of New-Agey philosophy with a lighthearted plot for theTNGcast. This time out, Picard (Patrick Stewart) and his executive crew must transport to a Shangri-la-like planet to see why their android crewmate Data (Brent Spiner) has run amuck in a village full of peaceful Ba'ku artisans who--thanks to their planet's "metaphasic radiation"--haven't aged in 309 years. It turns out there's a conspiracy afoot, masterminded by the devious, gruesomely aged Ru'afo (F. Murray Abraham, hamming it up under makeup resembling a cosmetic surgeon's worst nightmare), who's in cahoots with a renegade Starfleet admiral (Anthony Zerbe, in one of his final screen roles). They covet the fountain-of-youth power of the Ba'ku planet, but because their takeover plan violates Starfleet's Prime Directive of noninterference, it's up to Picard and crew to stop the scheme. Along the way, they all benefit from the metaphasic effect, which manifests itself as Worf's puberty (visible as a conspicuous case of Klingon acne), Picard's youthful romance with a Ba'ku woman(the lovely Donna Murphy), the touching though temporary return of Geordi's natural eyesight, and a moment when Troi asks Dr. Crusher if she's noticed that her "boobs are firming up." Some fans scoffed at these humourous asides, but they're what make this Trek film as entertaining as it is slightly disappointing. Without the laughs (including Data's rousing excerpt from Gilbert&Sullivan's HMS Pinafore), this is a pretty routine entry in the franchise, with no real surprises, a number of plot holes, and the overall appearance of a big-budget TV episode. As costar and director, Jonathan Frakes proves a capable carrier of theStar Trekflame--and it's nice to see women in their 40s portrayed as smart and sexy--but while this is surely an adequate Trek adventure, it doesn't quite rank with the best in the series. --Jeff Shannon

Insurrection.
ST Insurrection is great. It’s sci-fiction in a pure way. I want to share with you my feelings about that film.
The past ---------- Well, I’m not really a trekkie. I’m just a fan of the sci-fi world. When I was young, the catalan television played again Star Trek the original series. I became crazy about that serie from the first chapter. I think that ST:The original series (TOS) is maybe the best sci-fi serie ever done. For me it has the same problem than Doctor Who. Both series had the best plots ever done, but with bad special effects. Sometimes bad special effects means that you find more difficult to get into the story. Some years ago I discovered ST:The next generation. I was so excited to see a new crew for the enterprise. When I saw the first chapter (“encounter at farpoint” I think) I felt a bit dissapointed. The reason was not the special effects (they were incredibly good). The problem was that the new characters had no charisma. The old crew had every character so well defined from the first chapter, but to get into the new crew I needed almost a whole season. I think that the first season was too… “cold” for me. Characters were too far away of the emotions and feelings that are necessary to be popular. Some changes were done on the original crew of the next generation. When the crew were definetely fixed, the plots and the success of the serie began to rise until the end of the serie. ST: The next generation had some seasons of great sci-fi. And the last seasons was sometimes even better that TOS. It take a long time to next generation to have their own live away form TOS. In my opinion, the evil Borg were very helpful for the crew to earn their own identity. At the mid 90’s ST we moving to two new series “deep space 9” and “Voyager”. So The next generation finnished. Anyway it was at that moment when they give us the best of their plots. They began to do movies where TOS finished. The first movie of next generation was “ST 7 - generations” where were the original crew too. It was great to see Kirk and Picard together!! After that they did “First contact” which is one of the best sci-fi movies ever done, and after that they did the movie we are talking about. Star Trek 9 :Insurrection!
The plot --------- Federation is breaking one of their own rules and only the great crew of the enterprise can do something against it. I don’t want to tell many things of the plot, cos I think that opinions have to be useful if you know everything about the movie and you want more info or if you are planning to watch it. If I tell you the complete plot I’ll be breaking the magic of the cinema. What I want to say about the plot is that is by far one of the best plots of the whole serie. It’s really clever and with lots of surprises. I’d enjoyed it from the beginning to the end. It’s really good. It's really important to know less things as possible about that plot. The less you know, the more you'll enjoy the film.
The best of this movie ------------------------ There are some interesting points. The special and visual effects of this movie are incredible. They are really great. The way they define the spaceships, the fighting scenes… all of them are perfect. Matthew F. Leoneti, asc did a great job with the photography, the recreation of the ba’ku village, the landscapes of the planet, and that beautiful sunrises are really pretty. One of the best photography I ever seen on a sci-fi movie. As always Jerry Goldsmith's music is lovely.

The film is directed by Jonathan Frakes. He is the first official of the enterprise.. And a great director!!

Future
Now there is a new serie ready. It’s called “enterprise” and it’s placed before the original serie (and after the first contact with the vulcanians on ST8_Fist contact) There are rumours about a new ST movie with the Next Gereneration crew. I hope so because this movies are really great. Paramount are ready to sell the 7 seasons of ST Next generation on Dvd. I’d seen a pic of the dvd’s and are really pretty! It will became a collectors item!

...planet with Picard to ‘rescue’ Star Fleet officers and some Son’a people, however, it was Data who kept them on the planet informing the ‘Ba’ku’, (the villagers), that they were the enemy, its also found out that looks are deceiving, and the Ba’ku are fully knowledgeable with warp-drive and the latest technologies, its just they choose not to use them. Picard apologises, and everyone leaves.
Picard goes back to the surface after a while with Data ... ...will only appeal to die-hard Star Trek fans, even I struggled to enjoy it. Saying this it has a brilliant music score, one of Jerry Goldsmiths best I think, and it has a good twist to the movie, (if you can bare with it that long). We also see some good character moment’s, Riker and Troi especially as they ‘hot’ up their relationship somewhat. The location of the village is really paradise, (even though it has been done up a bit I expect), but its ...

Advantages: Pure Star Trek Disadvantages: Watching this after First Contact
...the cast and crew of Star Trek, Insurrection (The ninth film in the series) is a small disappointment at first glance. This tale about the peaceful race known as the Ba'ku and their planet of eternal youth, which is under threat, initially pails in comparison somewhat next to the excellent First Contact. However, part of the beauty of Star Trek has always been in the diversity of its stories and characters and although, in my opinion, this is one ... ...and offers the viewer the Star Trek equivalent of the "feel good factor" by its conclusion. The film's scope is best described as a moral argument rather than a full-blown "Insurrection" - but I guess the latter works better as a film title. The basic plot involves the afore mentioned peaceful race: the Ba’ku, who are seemingly in their technological infancy, sort of pre-industrial humanoids, who live on a remote planet deep in a region of inhospitable ...

Advantages: Excellent special effects, great cast Disadvantages: It feels like a feature-length TV episode
STARTREK: INSURRECTION is the 9th in the 'StarTrek' movie series, and the 3rd to feature the 'Next Generation' crew, led by Captain Picard. The film tells the story of a scheme between a Starfleet Admiral and the Son'a (a dying race) to destroy the Ba'ku, a peaceful race who have a formula to halt the aging process. When Picard and his crew discover this plot and are put into direct conflict with their superiors in order to save the Ba'ku.
After the exciting previous film, FIRST CONTACT, this feels much more sedate. The action proceeds at a much slower pace, and Picard even finds some time for a love interest, Anij (played by Donna Murphy), one of the Ba'ku. Most of the rest of the cast are dealt with as second-tier characters, although Data does get some welcome character development.
Once again special effects are excellent ...
Advantages: entertaining for star trek fans Disadvantages: could have been just a hour episode in the series.
startrekinsurrection to put it bluntly was what i thought the worst out of the startrek franchise movies. Im not saying it was a terrible movie....... just that It was the least entertaining of them. now saying that and moving on it did have some original plot movements. the fountain of youth, rouge star fleet officers and so forth but still all the old tricks were still there. revenge, forbiden love and so on. we do get to see some of brent spinners "data" funny sides witch is a good laugh, some good action sequences, and of course are favorite crew doing another voyage. All in all its worth a see but not a buy. They could have deffinetly did this movie in a forty five minute episode no problem. ...

DVD Description
The first of the nine STAR TREK films to feature largely computer-generated special effects and is again directed by Number One, Jonathan Frakes. While on a survey mission, Captain Picard and the crew of the Enterprise stumble on a conspiracy originating high up the Starfleet chain of command that involves a distressing plan of ethnic cleansing. On a remote planet, a small, peaceful race of human-like beings called the Ba'ku seems to be immune to the ravages of aging. Head bad-guy F. Murray Abraham leads another race for which exposure the planet's radiation is the only cure for an advanced state of degeneration, and, using clandestine Starfleet connections, arranges to wipe out the Ba'ku unless the Enterprise has anything to say about it.
