Back To Skool
Review of St Trinians DVD by sghawken

Advantages: Not as bad as many say
Disadvantages: Russell Brand is very bland

...of criticism over the new St Trinians movie, so rather like watching the likes of Epic/Date Movie and Meet The Spartans I thought this would be a good opportunity to add something else to my worst movies of all-time list. Sadly St Trinians was far from bad and all those people that claim it does not add up to the originals are sadly wrong, while the actors don't have the weight of the original movies, and with a few saucy words to bring the movie ...
...but for the wrong reasons St Trinians. St Trinians is a girls school filled with rogue characters and thugs, education is poor, and the welfare of the girls is far from on Miss Frittons agenda. When Minister Geoffrey Thwaites (Colin Firth) decides to clean up bad schools, and the bailiffs move in to recover a large debt it's up to the girls to save their school. My biggest criticism of the movie is in the casting of Russell Brand, I really don't ... Read review

Would you send your daughter to this school?
Review of St Trinians DVD by kingfisher111

Advantages: funny well casted film
Disadvantages: none

...socks off at the original St Trinians films (well I was only young!) so I was intrigued to see how this 21st century remake would measure up.I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised after spending a very enjoyable evening watching this funny but daft film on DVD. Like the original film , this one is about a truly terrible school where both the girls and the teachers appear out of control. Added to this the fact that the school is in dire financial ...
...Everett who, in the original St Trinians tradition, plays the part of the female headteacher Miss Fritton. She is a very laid back character who seems to fully endorse all her 'gels' escapades. Everett also doubles up as Miss Fritton's art dealer brother who is essentially the baddie, trying to force her to close the school. Colin Firth plays the straight laced Geoffrey Thwaites, the Education minister. This is also a very enjoyable if not slightly ... Read review

Needs a Finishing School
Review of St Trinians DVD by afy9mab

Advantages: Some okayish performances from the supporting cast.
Disadvantages: The direction is lazy, the story unoriginal, the performances lazy, inappropriate to its core audience.

St Trinian's school is under threat of closure once more as the bank manager is threatening to foreclose on the mortgage. Headmistress Camilla Fritton and her resourceful students have to come up with a plan to secure the money. So they decide to steal Vermeer's "Girl with a Pearl Earring" from the National Gallery to sell on the black market. Then there's the small matter of the Minister of Education wanting to close the school down. Sassy head ...
...This unnecessary reboot of the St Trinian's franchise by co-directors Oliver Parker and Barnaby Thompson is a travesty from beginning to end. It's less about the anarchic schoolgirls getting one over on authority figures and more about allowing grown men to leer over women masquerading as schoolgirls in short skirts. My heart sank as I saw the neon pink opening credits. But I got my hopes up as I saw the vulture-like schoolgirls peering over the ... Read review

The Belles of St Trinians?
Review of St Trinians DVD by  sunmeilan

Advantages: Entertaining, some good performances
Disadvantages: Too much going on

...unnecessary, although I hasten to add we didn't see anything inappropriate. Then there is the fact that although the plot is quite simple, there is so much going on that it is just too much at times and it is hard to keep up. However, these flaws didn't completely mar my enjoyment of the film, which is the important thing. At the end of the day, I enjoyed this film. I liked the fact that it was so British (made at Ealing Studios no less), showcasing a wealth of British talent (discounting Mischa Barton of course). And although it wasn't as funny as it could have been, there was enough humour to keep me occupied - thanks mainly to Rupert Everett. I don't know whether there are plans for another St Trinian's film, but I will be quite happy if there is. Recommended, whether you are a newcomer to the St Trinian's franchise or not. The DVD...
