Advantages: cheap, plenty of action, it's MMA Disadvantages: poor sound and picture, no extras, quality of fights
***What is it?***
The sport of mixed martial arts is one of the most misunderstood sports of all time. People get the impression of street brawls and bar fights when they think of no holds barred fighting. Boxing promoters say that people who compete in this sport are unskilled and don't have the dedication to do well in something like boxing. I'd like to say that most of the martial artists in these events devote their lives to martial arts and ... ...action and the fighters know when to give up and submit. There have actually been less serious injuries than sports like basketball, hockey and skiing.
The amount of respect and sportsmanship showed in this sport is of a higher regard than any other. Fighters will rage war on one another for anything up to half an hour then hug and congratulate each other afterwards. But enough about that as I have devoted a whole opinion to the cause in another ...
Advantages: great mix of styles Disadvantages: none
...the first season on the Ultimate Fighter (but dropped out due to injury). Having won only 4 out of his last five fights, Quarry was the huge underdog going into this fight. There was some talk of him being a great talent, but his opponent was deemed too much for him.
So, those are the main bouts, but there are also some great fighters on the undercard:
Georges St Pierre, who is now the Welterweight Champ (as of April 2009), takes on Sean Sherk, ... ...his last 12 fights. This was a much anticipated bout to settle the dust and work out who deserved a shot at the Welterweight title after Riggs had had his go.
SO WAS IT ANY GOOD:
Yes, indeed it was. When the UFC puts on a show where you have lots and lots of top talent, you're in for a good night.
I can tell you right now that the night includes a huge knockout - one of the most brutal I have ever seen, where the unconscious opponent drops back ...
Advantages: Some great matches Disadvantages: Some timewasters
...dvd contains the now defunct Pride FC's 2004 New year's eve supershow. Of the 11 fights featured only Ryo Chonan vs Anderson Silva (featuring one of the most memorable submissions ever) Takanori Gomi vs Jens Pulver, Mark Hunt vs Wanderlei Silva and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs Fedor Emelianko are outstanding matches that you'll want to rewatch again and again. The rest is mostly filler unfortunately. Crocop vs Randleman is a big disappointment and ...
Advantages: Good for the beginner and some interested strength training methods Disadvantages: Not very good as a cardio routine
...arts actor for several decades, David Carradine.
This DVD is made up of two videos that were first release back in the 90’s and put together into one product. The two videos contained on this DVD are:
• Shaolin Cardio Kick Box
• Shaolin Strength Training
Shaolin Cardio Kick Box
This part of the DVD lasts about 45 minutes and has David Carradine showing a routine for you to follow along to with several other people in the background.
The routine ... ...minutes and is narrated by David Carradine and performed by two people who are supposed to be teaches.
This part of the DVD starts off with a warm-up, has some strength training movements and then has an internal cool down.
The movements are performed several times slowly and then performed several times using full tension which is a technique called “Dynamic Tension”.
After performing this routine, I did have a slight sweat so it did work out ...
Advantages: Great action, great price, no boring bits! Disadvantages: Could be longer
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) use the slogan 'As Real As It Gets' and this DVD showcases why they chose that as their tag line - this is Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) action personified!
Over the years UFC has changed a little bit and they do have some rules now - believe it or not! However, back in the beginning there were no rules - at UFC 4 (16th Dec 1994) you'll see Keith Hackney repeatedly punch Joe Son in the groin, but I digress - that's ... ...boring - this is where Ultimate Knockouts excels. It cuts out anything that may be construed as boring and goes straight to the bit we all want to see - the knockout!
One huge benefit of this DVD is the repeat viewing factor. How many times have you spent money on a DVD only to watch it once and then put it away to gather dust until you take it down to MVC along with another 15 'one time watch' DVDs to swap them for one and a half DVDs from the ...
