INTRODUCTION
Another mad and funny cartoon in our DVD collection! This time it's Spongebob Squarepants, and for those who don't know him, he's basically a yellow, square sea sponge, who wears...you've guessed it! Square pants [well, trousers actually if you live in UK - pants are knickeeers!]. I am not ashamed to say that I really enjoy watching this cartoon. It is one of my son's favourites, and I kid you not when I say that I have seen virtually every single episode, more than once for sure [bad mother - too much TV for me offspring!]. This particular DVD is one of many we have, and it has one of my favourite episodes in it, so read on...
CHARACTERS
Before we press on with the contents, I would like to introduce you to the main protagonists, who live in Bikini Bottom [Spongebob's home town at the bottom of the sea].
SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS: I introduced him briefly above, but there is so much more to him than sponginess lol. He lives in a pineapple, and shares his life with Gary the sea-snail, who meows like a cat, and seems to have a hidden intelligence lol. Spongebob works at The Krusty Krab as a fry cook, flipping the famous Krabby Patty burgers for Mr Krabs, who is the owner [more of him below]. He loves to go jellyfish hunting with his trusty net, and thick square glasses [only ever seen during this pursuit], and enjoys jellyfish jelly sandwiches alongside the odd Krabby Patty or twelve lol. His best friend and neighbour is a starfish called Patrick Star, and he is also good friends with a land squirrel called Sandy Cheeks. Spongebob can be a very annoying little so and so, especially to his other neighbour Squidward Tentacles [a squid of course], who hates him. His laugh can become very grating, as can his sobbing, and he has a naive, and somewhat stupid innocence that shines through at most opportunities. Spongebob can also be very kind however, and seems completely oblivious to the fact that Squidward detests him, choosing to think of him as one of his best friends. He completely adores Gary, and takes very good care of him [sometimes]. Another of Spongebob's pursuits includes trying for his boating license every year. He fails each time, and has to re-attend boating school, which regularly causes Mrs Puff [a puffer fish], his teacher to have the odd breakdown here and there lol. Overall he's a crazy, silly character and the main hero of course! PERSONALLY: Spongebob can be very stupid as I said, but it's part of his charm. I like his character, especially when he unintentionally [or otherwise] manages to ruin Squidward's day. He is completely obsessed with his work at the Krusty Krab, has an odd passion for his spatula, and the most irritating laugh ever, but we love him.
PATRICK STAR: A starfish, and Spongebob's best friend. He really does come from the dumb pile lol, and can often be seen drooling as he tries to understand the simplest of concepts. He lives under a rock, and wears bright green and purple shorts, and often comments on the fact that he has no nose lol. Patrick doesn't work and is famous for being bone idle and gluttonous. He adores Spongebob, and always seeks out his company in order to play very silly games together. Patrick is very strong however, and has a temper at times! He also manages to get on Squidward's nerves, and is also naive about his neighbour's dislike of him. Together, Patrick and Spongebob make the ultimate thick, crazy couple lol! PERSONALLY: Patrick is lovable, despite the fact that he is thicker that at least three short planks. He and Spongebob are often like an old married couple.
SQUIDWARD TENTACLES: A moody, bad tempered squid, who can't stand the two characters above. Squidward also works at the Krusty Krab, as a cashier, and unlike Spongebob, hates his job. He can often be heard making the odd sarcastic remark about his work, and dreams of becoming a famous clarinet player. Unfortunately he plays the instrument very badly indeed, although he doesn't think so. Squidward always manages to get drawn into confrontations with Spongebob, as the latter's innocent comments are never percieved as such. He is plagued by his neighbours and doesn't want anything to do with them, but never gets his wish lol. Despite his apparent hatred for our hero, you sometimes wonder if he actually does care for him, as he does show the odd moment of compassion [it's a rare occurence lol]. PERSONALLY: Squidward is a likeable character despite his extreme bad moods, and I sometimes feel sorry for him, as all he really wants is a quiet life lol. No-one ever thinks his jokes are funny, except Squidward.
EUGENE KRABS: Owner of the Krusty Krab and a...er crab lol. Mr Krabs is a complete skinflint and values money above all else! He can be seen chasing after a penny for miles, and is mostly driven by his need to earn as much as he can, in whichever way he can. He seems to care for Spongebob however, and values him as a fry cook, as our hero is infact very good at flipping burgers. He trusts Spongebob with the ultra-secret Krabby Patty formula, and loves the fact that his square, yellow employee is so addicted to his work. He is a fat, tight-arsed [oops sorry] crustacean, with a big heart somewhere, and quite the sense of humour too lol. He can often be seen trying to prevent Plankton [his arch-rival and er...plankton lol] from stealing his secret formula. PERSONALLY: My favourite character. I love Mr Krabs as he makes me laugh. He is at his funniest when panicking about the loss of a quarter or similar, and goes a little crazy every now and again.
PLANKTON: As mentioned above. plankton runs The Chum Bucket, a fast food restaurant to rival The Krusty Krab, but never seems to have any customers. He dreams of stealing the Krabby Patty formula, and is always inventing ways to get his hands on it. They always end in disaster. Plankton prides himself on being evil, and is married to a computer wife called Karen, who is basically a large computer monitor with a nagging voice lol. Plankton is tiny of course, and has one eye, but this doesn't stop him from having big dreams. Infact he often dreams of being enormous and crushing Bikini Bottom under his feet lol. PERSONALLY: Another likeable character who gets a rough deal. He lives to steal from Mr Krabs, and can think of very little else. I can't help feeling sorry for him too at times.
SANDY CHEEKS: A land Squirrel who lives in a glass fresh air dome. Sandy has to wear a special suit and an air helmet in order to walk around Bikini Bottom. She is a very strong character and can kick just about anything's butt. She is often seen practising karate with Spongebob, and wiping the sea bed with him lol. She is also an inventor, and is funded by three monkies, who we actually see in one of the episodes. Sandy is a tough little nut from Texas, who has adopted Bikini Bottom as her home, and who loves all her friends. Not a wise idea to get on the wrong side of her however, as Spongebob finds out from time to time lol. PERSONALLY: Sandy can be bossy, but she cares about Spongebob, and she's definately a tough mammal lol. Not my favourite of characters, but a good addition to the animated cast nontheless.
SECONDARY CHARACTERS
LARRY THE LOBSTER: A musclebound lifeguard, who often likes to weight train with Sandy, and show off his tanned ripples lol. PEARL: Mr Krabs's daughter [a whale!] who despairs of her father's tightness, and often feels embarrassed by him. Beware when she starts crying lol.
THE EPISODES
1] HOME SWEET PINEAPPLE A band of nemotoads [sea worms] eat Spongebob's pineapple, and he is left homeless. Squidward is cheering, and Patrick is sobbing, but what will the yellow square one do now?
2] BAND GEEKS My favourite. Squidward gets the chance to play at the famous Bubble Bowl, but with Spongebob and crew in his band he isn't looking forward to it...
3] SANDY, SPONGEBOB AND THE WORM An gigantic Alaskan Bull Worm is threatening Bikini Bottom. Can super strong Sandy stop it, or has she met her match?
4] RIPPED PANTS Spongebob causes a hysterical uproar by ripping his pants, but he takes the joke just a little too far...
5] SANDY'S ROCKET Spongebob and Patrick launch Sandy's space rocket by mistake. Have they really landed on the moon? And are those real aliens?
6] CULTURE SHOCK It's the first Krusty Krab talent show, hosted by Squidward. Will poor Spongebob get the chance to shine more than the floor?
7] MUSCLEBOB BUFFPANTS Spongebob wants muscles, but gets them the easy way...
8] EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH Spongebob is always the employee of the month, but now Squidward wants a turn...
PERSONALLY: What I like about most Spongebob cartoons is the presence of some funny songs. In Band Geeks, you hear Spongebob performing at his best lol, and in Ripped Pants he makes an equally interesting contribution lol. These cartoons are crazy at best, and shouldn't be taken too seriously. The message here is have a laugh and read between the lines every now and again. It's harmeless, insane entertainment, and I personally enjoy watching it, although I have seen these so many times now, my brain simply shuts down when the theme song begins lol.

IN CONCLUSION
As I mentioned, this a bit of fun for you and the kids. You may not enjoy these slightly silly cartoons, with crazy and/or stupid characters, but the kids probably will. Spongebob is quite the famous sea critter though, and has already made a movie. He is famous in many countries too! Oooh! If you don't mind sitting in front of the box without having to use your brain too much, then you might give this a chance. I'm a kid at heart, so of course I admit to enjoying this, and recommend it to everyone, old and young. Here is some of the theme tune:
OOOOOh! Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Spongebob Squarepants! How yellow, absorbent and porous is he! Spongebob Squarepants! If nautical nonsense be something thee wish! Spongebob Squarepants! Then hop on the deck and flop like a fish! Spongebob Squarepants!
If you like your mindless nonesense wet, then give this a try. I bought my copy from Woolworths for £5, so it wasn't a bad deal. Worth shopping around for it though.

Advantages: price, fun, different languages Disadvantages: no subtitles
Well, I really like SpongeBob so I've decided to buy this DVD. Why this one? I just liked the title, and the price was not big :) When I came home I played it and.... I was laughing so hard I started crying! In my opinion, this DVD is great. Here we have 8 different episodes, all of them are very funny. Also what I have enjoyed is that there are 5 different languages to choose, so I have also watched it in Spanish because I am learning this language ...
