Spirited Away is about a young girl (Chihiro) who follows her parents into this deserted 'theme park' when night falls, strange creatures roam the place and Chihiro tries to leave but discover her parents have been turned into pigs for eating the spirit's food! She is then put to work at the bath house there so then she might be able to find a way to save her parents, with the help of the spirits who work there and Haku, a boy who feels familiar to her, she tries to leave the place she has been spirited away to.
The movie's graphics are well done, facial expressions are drawn in detail and the movement of the characters are fluid. Something fans of cartoons and anime will most definitely enjoy, I most certainly had fun watching it.
The music creates a tense atmosphere when it is needed or changes to happy and jovial when the humourous elements appear, I found it went well with the story and made it more interesting.
The movie can either be watched in English or Japanese with English subtitles . Voice-acting worked well in both languages, I felt that the voices used could be easily matched with the characters in either language, that the voices naturally belonged to them and if they were in real life that would be the voice they used.
The storyline has humour, drama and hints of romance in it, a sweet tale that would be enjoyable to anyone of any age. It'd be something that the children would watch when plonked down in front of the televison thanks to its interesting story. Studio Ghibli fans will like this as well as people who have only just found out about Japanese anime. Although it might be slightly scary to younger viewers.
