...is an animated animal story, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. At first, I thought it was Disney' s, so I was not impressed. But, wow, in the preview, there is no talking animal (in human language). Hey, what is this? Then I searched for more information about this movie.
This is the first information I got. And it made me happy. So it was right that there is no chattering animal in this movie. Actually, there is a narrator in this ... ...as Spirit tells his story to us. But in the "picture", there is no animal conversation. That is good. But why did they put human expressions in those animals? Yes, the animals are not chattering, but they communicate with their own language, plus human expression. I was a little disappointed by this. But it is okay. Once again, in the picture, there is no animals chattering with human language.
I love animated animal stories. Usually, in those movies, the beauty of nature and the adventure is so intense. I like that. Talk about animated animal stories, Disney will appear in our mind. But there are some things that I do not like about Disney' s. First, the animals talk. They talk with our language, human language. Very unrealistic. Even sometimes, there are interspecies conversations. Is there is any research revealing such a thing? I do not think so. Second, let us see Lion King. In that movie, there is an animal kingdom, ruled by lions. How could they choose a lion as their king? I mean, how could those herbivores choose that carnivores as their king? Then, what would be the King' s menu, since he must protect his people, including those herbivores? But it is okay. Disney' s animated animal stories are good. Yet, I am still not satisfied. One day, it happened. I was watching a television program. It showed the previews of some new released movie. There is an animated animal story, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.
Actually, there is a narrator in this movie, plays as the Spirit' s voice. So, it just as Spirit tells his story to us.
Second information. This is Dreamwork' s, not Disney' s. Since the first time I saw the preview, actually I felt something different. If this was Disney' s, why it was so "different" from other Disney' s animated animal stories. So what? What I knew is only that Dreamwork' s made Shrek. And it did not help me to decide.
The third information is the setting. The setting is Western America, at the frontier era. At about 2002, I began to read many west literatures. My favorites are Western America books. I really love the adventure. I also love the beauty and the greatness of the wild nature. And I got those things in this movie. Maybe I bought this movie because of this reason.
Finally, I bought this movie. I watched it. Wow, the opening was incredible. An eagle was flying across a valley. Amazing. The details were awesome. When I saw this opening, immediately was sure that this is a great movie. And that is true. You have to see the spectacular opening.
I am so impressed with the picture. Nice. Yes, it is not 3-D computer animation, but it is so soft. The texture is so, um, wonderful. The movements are so natural. The horse' s movements are so realistic. But what I like most is the flying eagle' s, so accurate. You have to watch it.
Then how about the story? This movie is a drama. The story is so beautiful. There are some scenes that make my heart weighed. But it is not because I am sad; it is because, well, I do not know. But I am sure it is not because I am sad. This is not a sad movie. This is a movie about the spirit to get freedom. But do not expect me to tell you the whole stories. Maybe I can tell you a little. Our main character here is Spirit, a mustang. He is a free horse. He loves his homeland. But his contact with humans brings him into many troubles. From troubles with a military base to the railway project. But it also brings him to Little Creek, an Indian, and Rain, Little Creek' s mare, who will be Spirit' s true lover. Together with Little Creek, Spirit passes many adventures to get his freedom. That is cool. It is too bad if you miss this movie.
Oh, I forgot the music and the soundtracks. Beautiful. I ever played this movie, only to listen the music and the songs. I activated the Windows Media Player, played the movie, minimized the Windows Media Player, and then just drew with CorelDRAW.
Because this is a narrated story, you can enjoy it even without watch it. Just listen it. And even it still "sounds" great.
But there is one thing that discomforts me. This is about the Spirit' s struggle to get his freedom. And he made it. The problem is, should we release all horse to the wild. Okay, I agree that we have to let mustangs free. They are part of nature. How about "ordinary" horse? Should we let them free in the wild too? Horse cannot be separated from human history. They have live with us for thousands years. Can they survive in the wild? I do not think so. Even if we treat them well, they just feel right with us. In this movie, human is the oppressor of the horse' s freedom. And I do not agree with that.
And there is one more thing. White men, in this movie, are bad. I am not a white, I am an Asian, but that is unfair. The good is only the Indians. Just them. Okay, they treat Spirit well, but why should all white are bad? We have to give some explanations about that to our children.
This is a (bit) serious movie. Do not expect to see many jokes here. Of course there are still some things that (maybe) make us laugh. But that is not the focus. So maybe children will feel something different. Would they dislike this movie? It can be. They do not have many funny things. But you should know that my cousin, about nine years old, really loves this movie. He loves the beauty and the adventure. This is a new thing for children, I guess. And I think it is good. But of course, for all parents, this movie is for you.
In general, this is a good movie. I mean a really, really good movie. The picture is realistic, dynamic, and natural. The music and soundtracks are beautiful. The story is nice. The adventure is incredible. Feel the spirit of this movie. The spirit that cannot be broken.
"Here I am, this is me, I come to this world so wild and free ..."

Advantages: Gorgeous animation; the horses don't talk Disadvantages: Simplistic plot
Setting: the Old West. A young mustang grows up wild and free to become leader of his herd, but then gets captured by the US Army. He resists the colonel's attempts to break him in, instead befriending Little Creek, a native Lakota prisoner. Spirit escapes the compound with Little Creek only to find that the Lakotas also want to own him. When Spirit meets Little Creek's beautiful paint pony Rain, he must choose between his freedom and his new life ... ...piece of animation. The landscapes are lush and dramatic, in many places taking your breath away. The humans' faces are remarkably detailed for animation and all characters are entirely believable.
There is not much speech in this film. Remarkably, the horses around which the story rotates do not speak at all. The main character, Spirit, has his name mentioned once only in the entire film. He communicates with the audience by way of an occasional ...

I recently visited my local video store and I just saw this film out of the corner of my eye, which reminded me that I had wanted to see after watching the trailer. Advantages: Superb Animation Disadvantages: Why The Songs??????
Spirit is the star of this unique film by DreamWorks, yet another attempt by the company that brought you classics such as “Shrek” and “The Road to Eldorado” to take the animated form to another level. Sadly though although the film looks astounding and the animation is 1st class if you were expecting something of the fun and madness as their other animated features you would be sadly mistaken.
It reminds me somewhat of “watership down” as there ... ...all of Spirits thoughts are told in a narrative format. It also reminds me of “Watership Down” due to the overly sentimental slushiness of it.
The story is quite akin to an epic on the size of live action films such as “Ben Hur” or “Gladiator”, and involves Spirit being taken from his wild fold of horses and taken on an adventure with a young Indian brave, who eventually helps him become reunited with his family.
If this film had been a lot more ...

Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is a beautifully created animation movie. So far it is the best I've ever seen. Other amination movies are nothing compared to this.
This movie is quite different compared to others. Instead of having characters speaking, there is a narrator, narrating the entire story line.
Spirit is a beautiful brown horse with a black long mane. He is the leader of the heard. He is captured by the army when protecting his herd. ... ...definately would recommend you to watch this show. However, if you are those gun lover type of film watchers, go for another show. This show isn't about any violence but about how one fights for their rights of freedom. That is why it is called Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron. ...

Well, what can I say. I'm a huge fan of Bryan Adams and when I saw an interview on the news with him about a new film that he was singing for I thought..hmm....must see that film. My only regret was that I didn't go and see it at the cinema. I actually saw it on a plane flying over to the states and had the rather emabarassing experience of being in tears at the end! DVD Description
SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON is a refreshingly old-fashioned and gentle tale of a mustang stallion struggling to remain free in the old West. The film is a seamless blend of traditional hand-drawn and computer-generated animation. Opening with an impressive bird's eye pan of the Grand Canyon, from the viewpoint of an eagle, SPIRIT captures the unspoiled beauty of the land. The animals in this particular animated film do not talk, and Matt Damon provides effective, sparse narration from the perspective of Spirit, an adventurous young stallion who is captured by the U.S. Army. But Spirit will not let the soldiers saddle and ride him. An authoritarian colonel (voiced by James Cromwell) is determined to break Spirit, at one point starving the horse to weaken him. A Lakota prisoner, Little Creek (voiced by Daniel Studi) is impressed with the horse, and helps him to escape. Little Creek can't break the horse either. But the two learn to respect each other, and Spirit meets Rain, Little Creek's horse, and falls in love. The score was written by Hans Zimmer, and Bryan Adams wrote and performed the sweet, simple songs on the soundtrack. SPIRIT is a great-looking and lovingly crafted children's film.
