Advantages: A biased account of the life of this Irish comic genius and lunatic! Disadvantages: Perhaps too revealing and not to everyone's taste.

My reaction to SpikeMilligan by Humphrey Carpenter is that on balance he deserves a more rounded and fitting biography now that he has gone.I would be the first to agree that his work was like the curate's egg, good in parts. But I would also argue that stability and consistency are not compatible with comic genius. When you look at Monty Python, bizarre events in Royston Vasey or the 'the ladiees' of Little Britain just think, they all have a direct lineage that can be traced back to SpikeMilligan. I've had mix thoughts on Amy Winehouse in the past I think the media influence most peoples thoughts on what to think of these "celebrities" every shop I walk in that sells magazines you can guarantee Amy Winehouse will be wrote about in nearly all of the magazines, I've hardly seen one nice compliment to Amy seen the 4 years she's being around.
Anyway, I decided to go purchase the DVD to see what she's really about.
"ItoldyouIwas trouble" which is live in London was pretty good; I must admit on stage she was drunk. But watching the chapters on her life were very interesting, especially when it mentions the "Rehab" song and explains what it's all about, you see a complete different light to her which is defiantly a good reason to buy it. I would recommend this DVD to anyone who likes Amy ...

It's a mystery how a man who called Prince Charles a 'groveling little bastard' on live TV would somehow end up on the Prince's list of favorite comedians, but that was the beauty of Spike Milligan. When the man Eddie Izzard called the founder of modern comedy died in 2002, he was mourned the world over as a great loss for British entertainment. It's no wonder then that just six months after his death some of the best names in the comedy business would present a live tribute to the actor/comedian/writer with monologues, material from the Goons (a radio series he developed with Peter Sellers, Michael Bentine and Harry Secombe) and TV show Q, along with readings of Milligan's other work, namely poems and prose. This rare live performance is a true gem, both the material itself and the new interpretations. The reverence and awe these performers feel for this wonderful artist is truly inspiring. Oh, and did we mention this show is hilarious too
