strengthened by the appearance of one of cinemas most lucrative franchises of recent times. Each of theSpider-manfilms have amassed extraordinary sums of money, and theyre gathered here together in this glorious high-definition set. Ironically for a trilogy, its the second film thats the strongest, although lets not jump ahead. The firstSpider-man, for instance, introduces us to Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire), and covers the genesis of the infamous superhero. Set against Willem Dafoes Green Goblin, its a deft, impressive and entertaining blockbuster, albeit one that takes a little longer than youd like to get motoring.Spider-man 2is the business, though. This is the one with Alfred Molinas stunning Doctor Octopus, although he has to share the screen with the title character contending with his dual life, and the effect on his relationship with Mary-Jane (Kirsten Dunst). It could have gone wrong, but its so tightly put together that its one of the very best blockbusters of recent times.Spider-man 3, inevitably, cant quite match the standard set, but you cant fault it for ambitious. Mixing in Topher Grace as Venom, Thomas Haden Church as Sandman and James Franco as the new Green Goblin, its a lot to fit into one film, and thats what bogs things down. However, when it does hit its stride,Spider-man 3is a rip-roaring ride in its own right.Exclusive to the Blu-ray format in high definition, this is undoubtedly the cinematic purists best way to enjoy theSpider-manfilms at home. And backed up by some incisive extra features, this is a boxset that not only demos the strengths of high definition home entertainment, its also got three highly entertaining films at the core of it. --Jon Foster

This series is less dark than many of the other comic book movies. The sort of thing you don't even hesitate to let your kids watch. My 8 year old sister loves these movies. The first film shows the making of spiderman, with the Green Goblin as his main enemy. It follows the comic books pretty closely and Kirsten Dunst is a lovely MJ. Maguire is good as spiderman because he's not got the cool factor, which suits the character. The biggest difference is that he's far less neurotic than his predecessors. The second film has Dr Octopus as the villain, leading to a lot of nice stunts using those mechanical arms to climb buildings and so forth. The third film has a 20 minute period in the middle with 'evil spider man' that is just wrong, appalling and should be deleted. You need to be cool to pull that off, cool butch and manly, Maguire bless him, isn't. Good otherwise though. I like the villain the most out of the three and the method for killing him was very good. Overall, a nice series. Light-hearted, kid friendly, and thoroughly watchable.

DVD Description
Features the adventures of the famous webslinger as he battles numerous adversaries in SPIDER-MAN, SPIDER-MAN 2, and SPIDER-MAN 3. In SPIDER-MAN, high school student Peter Parker gets bitten by a genetically modified spider whilst on a school trip to a University laboratory. Overnight Peter develops supernatural powers and extreme strength. At first he uses his new talents for his own material gain but Peter eventually comes to the conclusion that he must use his new found abilities to fight evil as the super-hero Spider-Man. In SPIDER-MAN 2, Peter Parker is having problems with his double life as the superhero Spider-Man and as things get worse he decides never to be Spider-Man again. It's only when the scientist Dr Otto Octavius becomes deformed in a freak accident into Dr Octopus that he realises that only Spider-Man can stop him. In SPIDER-MAN 3, the webbed superhero and his girlfriend, Mary Jane, get embroiled in a love triangle while he is forced to confront a new slate of dastardly villains and a power that changes his very personality.
