There are 3 main scenes in the film Speed: The elevator, the bus and on the subway.
The Elevator
Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper) plants a bomb in an elevator, in a busy Los Angeles office block. He wants $3 million otherwise he will detonate the bomb. In steps Officer Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves) and Detective Officer Harry Temple (Jeff Daniels) to check out the device. Its stood on top of this elevator that Harry and Jack have a conversation:
Harry: 'Pop Quiz, hotshot. Airport. Gunman with one hostage. He's using her for cover; he's almost to a plane. You're a 100 feet away. Jack??
Jack: 'Shoot the hostage'
Harry: 'What?'
Jack 'Take her out of the equation. Go for the good wound and he can't get to the plane with her - clear shot.'
To cut a long story short Harry and Jack remove the hostages from the equation by temporarily stopping the elevator from falling. Jack and Harry find Payne hiding in a freight elevator. Harry is taken hostage and Jack goes back to their earlier conversation and shoots the hostage (i.e. Harry) in the leg. Payne makes a run for it and the another bomb explodes killing Payne - or does it??
The Bus:
It's the morning after the night before, Harry and Jack have just received medals for their bravery. A bomb on a bus near Jack explodes. Payne makes contact with Jack and informs him that another bomb has been planted on a bus. Once the bus goes 50mph the bomb will be activated. After this, if the bus slows down to under 50mph or anyone tries to get off, the bomb will explode.
Jack manages to get himself on to the bus, the driver of the bus, Sam is shot by another passenger, so in steps Annie (Sandra Bullock) to take over the driving. Things still don't go to plan for Jack, when he tries to break the circuit of the device and, in turn causes a gas (petrol) leak, and then they have to overcome a problem of an unfinished piece of freeway.
The Subway:
Jack, Annie and Payne are on the subway. The driver is once again shot (by Payne this time). Annie is handcuffed to a pole, while Payne and Jack fight on top of the moving train. The emergency break on the train wont work and in true film style the track is unfinished, but to find out what happens your going to have to watch the film?
Although, I think Speed is brilliant, you should look out for some fairly funny mistakes. In the scene with the gap in the freeway, the film is played in fast forward, to make it look like the bus is moving faster than it actually. There's nothing unusual looking about this until you look closely and watch the police in the background who are also in fast forward!! Also if you look at the missing part of the bridge which is part of the freeway, and look at the reflection, the shadow is of a full bridge. This is because the bridge was actually there but was digitally erased. Another interesting fact about the film is that Halle Berry and Stephen Baldwin turned down the parts of Annie and Jack.

Like I said in my review of Gothika - Halle Berry needs a new agent. She stars in rubbish movies and turns down good ones.
