I had actually forgotten how good this movie is, and how much I fancied Keanu Reeves!
The Story
Officer Jack Tavern (Keanu Reeves) and Detective Harold 'Harry' Temple (Jeff Daniels) are awarded medals of bravery after saving some people trapped in a elevator with a bomb waiting to go off in side. They think that the person who set up this attack has died but when a bus explodes in front of Jack Tavern he realises that the bomber is back. Shortly after the bus explodes Jack he receives a call from the bomber, he tells Jack that there is a bomb on the number 25 25 bus. The rules are that once the bus reaches 50 miles an hour it will activate the bomb, the bus has to stay above 50 or it will blow, another rule is if anyone gets of the bus it will blow, he also require a ransom of $3 million dollars by 11am or the bus will blow! Jack rushes off to find the bus and calls his partner Harry to let him know what is going on, together they are determined to stop him but it is not going to easy. By the time Jack reaches the bus it has reached 50 miles an hour so there is no way of slowing down or stopping the bus, to make matters worse the bus driver has been injured and a young woman called Annie (Sandra Bullock) has had to take over at the wheel.
My Thoughts
This is a very exciting, fast paced, action film, I have seen it before years ago but still found myself sat on the edge of my seat the second time round. The story is great, and makes for a fast moving film, I really like all the close calls that have been put in along away that have you thinking everything is going to go wrong. Jack played Keanu Reeves is a great lead, he has passion and determination abut is also damn sexy! Annie played by Sandra Bullock has got energy and a sense humour which adds a comic element to the film. Howard Payne the bomber is played by Dennis Hopper, and is a great villain, and makes it very easy for the viewer to want him to loose to Jack. The special effects used are amazing, I would love to of seen how they filmed the runaway bus, the music also helps to build up the tension in the film. This a great film, it maybe an oldie but it is a goodie and I highly recommend it!
Actors/Characters
Officer Jack Tavern is played by Keanu Reeves, Jack is part of the bomb disposal unit, he loves his job and likes to succeed, he is always ready for a challenge. When Howard Payne orders a ransom jack is willing to put his life at stack to stop him from blowing that bomb. Keanu Reeves is a very sexy man which makes this film very appealing to watch! He is also a very good actor who has starred in many movies, Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures and The Matrix.
Detective Harold 'Harry' Temple is played by Jeff Daniels, Harry is Jack's partner together they are determined to stop Howard Payne from getting what he wants. Harry is the brains of the pair and helps to reveal who Howard is. Jeff Daniels is a great supporting actor in this film, he has also appeared in many other films such as Dumb and Dumber and 101 Dalmatians.
Howard Payne is played by Dennis Hopper, Howard Payne is a very bitter man with a point to prove to police, he is very twisted and wants would he feel he deserves. Dennis Hopper plays this character brilliantly wit just the right hint of creepiness. He has starred in many films such as Water World and Rebel Without a Cause.
Annie Potter is played by Sandra Bullock, Annie is a innocent passenger on the bus, she quickly gets behind the wheel when the driver is injured unaware of the ital role she will end up playing in the proceedings that follow. Sandra Bullock has played many great roles in films such as Miss Congeniality and While You Where Sleeping.

Advantages: Superb Action Film That Doesnt Let Up For A Minute Disadvantages: Totally Unbelievable... But So What
This was the film that was to transform Keanu Reeves from loveable air guitar geek Ted "Theodore" Logan into credible hard action man. Shorn of hair, but not of accent , it doesn't quite come off. His partnership with Jeff Daniels almost mirrors the Bill & Ted union, Jeff being the Bill S. Preston Esquire (Alex Winter in the Bill & Ted Films), with lots of wise cracks amid the explosion. Sandra Bullock is added as the love interest, but you get the ... ...Anyway to the film.
Howard Payne is an embittered ex- bomb squad cop pensioned off when he loses digits in and explosion. The character is played perfectly by Dennis Hopper, with a suitable disregard for human life and personal property. He is continually foiled by the presence of Reeves and Daniels (not Reeves and Mortimer note). This annoys him as he continues to miss out on the 3.75 million dollars that he is "owed" by the city.
There are three ...

...film?
Although, I think Speed is brilliant, you should look out for some fairly funny mistakes. In the scene with the gap in the freeway, the film is played in fast forward, to make it look like the bus is moving faster than it actually. There's nothing unusual looking about this until you look closely and watch the police in the background who are also in fast forward!! Also if you look at the missing part of the bridge which is part of the freeway, ...

Advantages: Great action, acting, plot and well everything really Disadvantages: Nothing
Speed is an absolutely awesome action movie. Jan De Bont was at the helm for this one and has produced a stunning movie. It has got the lot action, great acting, great plot and a little romance too. What more could you want? The plot is pretty original. There’s a bomb on a bus and when the bus goes 50 MPH it will arm itself then if it drops below 50 it blows. So why is their a bomb on this bus? Well an extortionist (Dennis Hopper) is after ... ...he plants the bomb on the bus to get money but drags Jack in to see how he copes. The passengers include Sandra Bullocks character Annie Porter who has to drive the bus through L.A. till Jack can figure out what to do. The acting throughout is brilliant. I am not a huge fan of Keanu Reeves and detest the Matrix but I think he is brilliant in this role. He plays the Swat teams Jack Traven perfectly. He is excellent in the action scenes and also in ...

Advantages: Lots of action Disadvantages: Becomes too much at times
The film Speed is an action film which once the plot has been established simply races along. When you consider that the premise of the movie is that a bomb on a bus will blow up if the speed of the bus drops below 50mph then it has to hasn’t it.
The films stars Keanu Reeves as a cop Jack Traven and Sandra Bullock as Annie Porter who are those on the bus trying to avoid it exploding. The villain who is trying to extort money is played by Dennis ... ...the use of the minimum speed of the bus is an innovative twist it is still a twist on an often worked theme. The clock ticking down towards its conclusion and the immediate danger of their predicament are intertwined and we get regular shots of the buses speedometer to show how close they get. There is a huge amount of damage done as they shoot along the LA freeway before coming to a huge if implausible explosive finale. The closing train sequence ...

...her licence for speeding!
Speed is without doubt one of my favourite action movies of the 90’s much like Die Hard is my favourite action movie from the 80’s. Although Die Hard is far superior to Speed, Speed is still a fantastic film that still manages to glue you to the edge of your seat from start to finish.
The opening sequence is great, it really manages to set the pace for the film and get you gripped right from the beginning. It doesn’t go ... ...focus less on the plot. Speed has just the right amount of both, it has the non-stop action which goes on all the way through the film but it also has a strong storyline which even if you’re not a fan of action films there’s still something for you to enjoy. The acting is superb and second to none, usually in action films the acting itself is overlooked in favour of special effects and the action itself however in Speed you get the best of both worlds. ...

Advantages: DVD quality, Dolby Digital Disadvantages: Speed 2 - Cruise Control
...Hi have watched both of these DVD, whilst Speed the original is an all time classic with intense action through the entire movie, Speed 2 - cruise control in my opinion does not live up to the legacy of the original. The resolution of DVD, and Dolby digital sound is as cutting edge as it gets and this DVD pack would unfortunatley not be on my xmas list this year but if you know any die hard Speed fans then this is a must!!! Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock create thrilling scenes together. There are a host of other movies with Keanu Reeves which to me as a "man" provide more exciting and griping action, i.e. the matrix trilogy and point break....

Advantages: Children will like it Disadvantages: Weak story, predictable, hard to see the racing
...My eldest son saw this film advertised when we were watching the television and he was so excited about being able to watch it as he is into cars and especially the Hot wheels collection which this is part of. The excitement on his face when Daddy bought the DVD was magical and throughout he was on the edge of his seat watching the cars!
The film is about the Racer family. The main character is the son, Speed who is very loyal to his family and works in the family mechanic business. All he wants to do really is follow his parents and elder brother and race. Pop Speed is very talented and has made Speed a racing car called the Mach 5 which he hope to race one day.
Another firm, Royalton Industries call upon the family and ask Speed if he will race in the Mach 5 for them but Speed turns them down. Royalton then start making threats...

They're called in to free a group of office workers from an elevator that's trapped between floors in a downtown high-rise. Howard Payne, an explosives expert who used to be with the Atlanta, Georgia bomb squad, has promised that they'll all be blown to bits unless he's paid off. Traven and Temple rescue the hostages, but Payne escapes. Later, while Traven is out getting coffee in his neighbourhood one morning, Traven witnesses a city bus explode, killing several people. Traven picks up a nearby ringing pay phone, only to hear Payne warn that another bus, filled with innocent commuters, has been wired with a bomb.
