Advantages: A great film for the kids! Disadvantages: Don't watch if you don't like kids films, or bright colours, or over exaggerated stories!

When Rex is killed in a race, it tears the Racer family apart. But 8 years on, Speed is the one in the driving seat. As he is up and coming, he is constantly hassled by big corporate companies wanting to be in charge of Speed, but he wants to stick with Racer, the family company!

The racing part of the film is in CGI, in a cartoony kind of way, whilst the rest of the film is normal. It has a Lazy Town kind of feel to it in a way, with the outfits of the characters and the roundness of things!
I quite liked the film, even though it is really a kids film, and I think much more appreciated by children!!! You'll like this if you like Disney Animation films I think...although made by WB, it has that Disney feel to it, although it would probably be better by Disney...!!!!! (and there'd probably be a great ride at Disneyland made about it!!!!!!)
I say give this film a go, it is a good watch!! And you can't make up your own mind about a film until you have watched it...I wouldn't have watched this film if I'd read some of the reviews on here first but after watching it, I enjoyed it! :)
Advantages: Stunning visuals. Disadvantages: Some comedy sequences aimed at children that get annoying.
The Wachowski brothers famous for the Matrix trilogy have created another screen gem in speedracer. A flashback to the popular 60's comic, Speedracer uses groundbreaking technology to give a live-action film a cartoon feel like it is bursting out of the comic onto the big screen. I watched this film in Blu-Ray and the shocking bright explosions looked even better than in the cinema. Ideal for kids and grown ups alike this feel is full of action sequences ... ...I was originally told by a number of my friends not to watch this film as they did not like the way it was filmed but I thought it was brilliant and really stands out from anything offered in the past few years. A predictable plot but engaging none the less, Speedracer couples every young boys two favourite things into one film. Fast cars and explosions! ...

Advantages: Children will like it Disadvantages: Weak story, predictable, hard to see the racing
My eldest son saw this film advertised when we were watching the television and he was so excited about being able to watch it as he is into cars and especially the Hot wheels collection which this is part of. The excitement on his face when Daddy bought the DVD was magical and throughout he was on the edge of his seat watching the cars!
The film is about the Racer family. The main character is the son, Speed who is very loyal to his family and works in the family mechanic business. All he wants to do really is follow his parents and elder brother and race. Pop Speed is very talented and has made Speed a racing car called the Mach 5 which he hope to race one day.
Another firm, Royalton Industries call upon the family and ask Speed if he will race in the Mach 5 for them but Speed turns them down. Royalton then start making threats ...
Advantages: It looks striking. Disadvantages: Poor direction, plotting and performances.
SpeedRacer is born into a family of racing drivers and mechanics, so naturally the only thing he wants to do is race. His greatest competition is the memory of his brother Rex, who died during the gruelling Crucible. He is loyal to his family and their business, run by his father Pops, who designed his car Mach 5. But when Speed turns down an offer to race for Royalton Industries, its maniacal owner wants to make sure Mach 5 doesn't cross another finishing line. The only way Speed can win is to beat Royalton at his own game. So with the help of his family, his girlfriend Trixie and the mysterious Racer X, he sets about trying to win The Crucible and exposing the corruption rife in the racing industry.
Where did it all go wrong with the Wachowski brothers? Their debut with "The Matrix" was such a singular example of writing ...

When Speed garners the wrath of Royalton Industries, he must team up with the enigmatic Racer X (Matthew Fox) to defeat the ruthless corporation.
