When a creature geneticaly engineered through extraterrestrial intelligence escapes from observation scientist Xavier Fitch (Kingsley) assembles an elite team of experts to track it down. The crew - a government assassin (Madsen) an empath (Whitaker) a biologist (Helgenberger) and an anthropologist (Molina) - combines their expertise and traces their prey to Los Angeles. There in the form of a stunning young woman (Henstridge) the alien initiates a horrific plan to mate with unsuspecting men and produce offspring that could destroy mankind. As her deadly biological clock rapidly ticks Fitch and his team are hurled into a pulse-pounding chase in which the fate of humanity itself lies in the balance... Species 2 (Dir. Peter Medak 1998): During a mission to Mars astronaut Patrick Ross (Justin Lazard) is infected by alien DNA. Back on Earth he starts to transform into a terrifying alien entity with a one track mind - to mate with human women and colonise the world with his half-alien offspring. Scientist Laura Baker (Marg Helgenberger) and ex-military assassin Press Lennox (Michael Madsen) race against time to stop Patrick. They use Eve (Natasha Henstridge) the beautiful half-alien clone to lure Patrick but Eve's instinct to mate is too strong and she escapes looking to procreate with Patrick to create and alien race that spells doom for mankind... Species 3 (Dir. Brad Turner 2004): Beauty is only skin deep... The third in the series of the nudey-horror franchise sees Eve (Henstridge) let her daughter Sara (Sunny Mabrey) run riot on the male population in her place! The battle between mankind and the human-alien lifeforms has gathered pace since the last frenetic round of action with the humans gaining a slight upper hand. But the emergence of Sara soon gives the aliens a vital boost to their efforts with the deviously seductive hybrid heading to earth in order to repopulate it by reproducing as much as possible! Her incredible sex drive allows her to carry out the taxing mission but a huge human military presence is gathering aiming to put Sara and her cohorts out of action for good.

Right off the bat I have to admit, I really do not know what I was thinking of. There was something inside me that just wanted to see Species 3. The first was a glorious tease; the second was one of the worst things I've ever seen on screen. A third was just morbid curiosity.
With DVD there is now a market for studios to knock out cheap direct to video sequels. Hence the reason for this and the likes of 8MM2, Hollow Man 2 and a sequel to The Net. Quite simply they are sequels that nobody would be clamouring to see on the big screen. But on the small screen they can make some coin.
Species 3 sees Natasha Henstridge collect a modest payday for a days work. She spawns another foxy female who grows from child to hot blonde in the time it takes to microwave a potato before leaving the franchise behind. A nutty professor takes the species child and raises her in order to study her and win some kudos in the scientific world. Naturally an alien species doesn't go missing from the government radar for long and soon they're on the case. The professor enlists the help of a student and general sexual shennigans ensue featuring catfights, low rent gore and modest depiction of female nudity and shoddy CGI.
Species 3 doesn't make much sense and it's incredibly stupid from start to finish. But it's still watchable on an unintentionally funny level. Amelia Cooke takes over the Henstridge mantle by looking nice and saying little. The cast is given some weight by having DTV sequel star Robin Dunne in it. This is the guy who has taken leading roles in Cruel Intentions 2, The Skulls 2, American Psycho 2 and now this! The man is a typecast genius. I also liked seeing Robert Knepper as the professor; currently he is wowing audiences on the show Prison Break with his portrayal of T-Bag - awesome stuff and not an exposed pocket in sight!
If for some reason you enjoy the guilty pleasures of direct to video sequels then by all means give this a look. I feel dirty just talking about it.
-The DVD-
This shlocker was shot on hi-def video and looks ok in 1.78 widescreen. The transfer is nice but visually this is nothing special. Some may say it's a good transfer; all I can say is that it does have its knockers.
The Dolby Digital 5.1 soundmix serves a purpose but again due to the budget don't expect a great deal in the audio experience.
-More Schlock!-
The film has an audio commentary where the maker's actually treat it as a serious piece of work. It's amusing to listen to as no one appears to realize the joke may be on them.
MGM even throw in around thirty minutes of making of stuff. Quite knows why you'd want to be seeing how Species 3 came to be but there are people out there who will have this in their collection. It gives a modest overview on why there is a third film and how some the effects were pulled off. But in all honesty you may have been too scared by the film to witness this.
Rounding out the disc is a few trailers and some stills.
-Finally-
Ok we all know the reason why some guys will want to see this. It's got some nice girls getting them out in sexy alien situations. On that note it delivers but never goes too far.
Species 3 does what it says on the tin, it ain't good but then you knew that before even watching it.
