inevitable--and inevitably contrived--sequel to 1995's surprise sci-fi hit. He's referring to a celebrated astronaut (Justin Lazard) infected with alien DNA from his history-making Mars landing, and the half-alien Eve (Natasha Henstridge), who was created from alien-human embryo splicing by biochemist Dr Laura Baker (Marg Helgenberger) in an effort to discover the alien species' vulnerabilities on Earth. While the astronaut sows his gruesomely wild oats with doomed women (resulting in a bevy of creepy kids in alien cocoons), Eve goes into heat until she and the astronaut can consummate their procreative lust. Sex and death are served up like money-shots in a porno flick, with an emphasis on gory flesh-regeneration, explosive pregnancies and slimy-tentacled intercourse. All of which makes this is the kind of derivative schlock that only a true fan could love, but it's boosted to a tolerable level of entertainment by the returning cast (Madsen, Henstridge and Helgenberger) from the previous film. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

Let's face it this film just hasn't got it. There are effects aplenty, and gore galore but is that what an intelligent audience wants? Maybe it does, maybe it doesn't but an audience will certainly want a decent story and a decent cast.

Several members of the original team are back but several of them seem to have had total personality transplants - are you sure these are the same guys? They worked well together the first time round but this time the writers have tried to flesh the characters out (and they needed to in a sequel) but they've taken them down the wrong route - it don't work.
On the story side of things it's even worse - mankind reaches Mars and gets infected by exactly the same organism as in the first film (chances of that happening?), and it's up to Eve (a clone of the original creature) to save the day.
It's stupid, boring and only worth watching if you're into REALLY trashy gore splatter sci-fi
Advantages: watchable. Disadvantages: doesnt seem to go anywhere.
Species II stars Natasha Henstridge and Miichael Madson. A follow on to "Species". When a team of astronauts become infected by Alien DNA they transform into half alien clones, hell bent on finding a mate to procreeate with and colonise the world with their offspring. Natasha Henstridge is the half alien they seek who has to escape her laboratory prison to meet her partner.
Full of slime and half naked bodies, this film is watchable but doesnt realy ...
Advantages: None Disadvantages: Nasty, sexist, leering and cheap
If you ask me, 'Species' was a dreadful movie enlivened only by SFX and a few good actors. The excellent special effects and the frequent nudity of the star Natasha Henstridge probably accounted for the big box office.
Here, instead of the movie revolving around scenes of Nats in the buff, the film concentrates on other naked women, various strippers, prostitutes and sluts who take their clothes off before dying in variety of horrible ways. Presumably, ... ...and die because they're all a bit trashy - this makes 'Species 2' a deeply unpleasant and sexist film.
Hensters keeps her clothes on for most of the film, while the first man on Mars rogers his way around Washington impregnating the aforementioned ladies, who then instantly give birth in a series of hysterical gore scenes. You want blood, slime, rape and bad acting? Done. You want to watch a man shotgun his own head off and have it grow back? Done. ...

DVD Description
Sil, the sex-crazed alien life form from the predecessor "Species" is now a clone named Eve (Henstridge). Eve is the acting subject of governmental experiments until a trio of astronauts returns from a trip to Mars and one starts behaving rather strangely. Astronaut Patrick Ross (Lazard) begins to act eerily similar to Sil in that sexual predator sort of way that Henstridge made so endearing in "Species."
