East End Through The Ages
Advantages: Interesting Disadvantages: Not enough of the "old" history of the East end
East End Through The Ages is a Green Umbrella release. The video is a production by the famous and somewhat controversial actor, playwright, film star and director, Steven Berkoff. Why? Because Steven Berkoff is an east Ender and he returns to the place of his birth to tell its fascinating and exciting story.
He describes the East End as the stomach of London, with the limbs of London, as it were, taking the "food" that is brought in from the stomach. ... ...his attempt to explain that the East end has become tired of being the stomach and wants to grow into a head, is an analogy too far. As with many places, I would contend that the East End is changing not because it particularly wants to, but because other people are making it changer. And there is, I think, a big difference.
Berkoff starts his story with the Battle of Cable Street, which took place in 1936. Sadly, Berkoff proves that there is no ...

Fred Dibnah's Building of Britain
Advantages: Fantastic programming Disadvantages: only 177 minutes long!
Fred Dibnah's Building of Britain should be made required viewing for all students of history, archaeology, building conservation and architecture. Fred is able to make everything come to life. The late Fred Dibnah was a modern renaissance man. For not only did Fred say how something was built in times gone by, he would show the viewer, using exquisite drawings that he had executed himself, models or full-scale replicas, how the techniques had actually ... ...three DVD boxed set of Fred Dibnah's Building of Britain is a fantastic introduction to Fred Dibnah's world. He is able to explain and to really demonstrate how things were done in what some people describe as "the olden days."
DVD 1 shows The Art of Castle Building and Might Cathedrals. He explains how the castles were designed, how they were constructed, how they were managed and also, using a technique that Fred still used, how they could be ...

I can see my house from here....
Advantages: Shows lovely scenery Disadvantages: Another niche market product
...Guard, and travels over the Isle of Man and discusses the impact the last Ice age had on sculpting the hills and the northern plains. It shows some very nice views, and in my opinion is just generally more interesting than Manx Moods. One example is the re-telling of the stories of Peel Castle and the small island it sits on just off the coast of the Peel itself, and lets you appreciate the history behind it. Everything in this DVD is filmed from ... ...around the coast of the Isle of Man, showing the settlements such as Ramsey, Douglas, Kirk Michael and Castletown as the helicopter shows the miles of beaches and coast. However, onto the bad bits - its not really an exciting program - its educational for the history and geography parts, but its definetly a niche market again. If you like geography/geology/celtic history, then you won't be disappointed, but anyone hoping for daredevil flying stunts ...

You definitely get a good workout!
Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: None so far
I've always been a bit skeptical with fitness DVD's. I never believed they'd really achieve anything and that they were more of a "soft touch" approach to exercising. I'll happily admit that when I started using this DVD I was proven wrong. It provided me with a really tough and demanding workout that over time would really provide good results.
The DVD
You have five sections:
Engage Your Body Warm Up: A routine that gets your body warmed ... ...lies ahead!
Fat Assault Aerobics: Here you do a range of different things including cardiovascular exercises, streches, improving your flexibility, coordination and agility amongst other things. This burns off loads of calories as your heart is pumping and you don't stop being active!
Combat Manoeurves: A very, very intense alomst military style workout where you focus on routines based around kicks and punches.
Target and Tone: The section that ...
