East End Through The Ages
Advantages: Interesting Disadvantages: Not enough of the "old" history of the East end
East End Through The Ages is a Green Umbrella release. The video is a production by the famous and somewhat controversial actor, playwright, film star and director, Steven Berkoff. Why? Because Steven Berkoff is an east Ender and he returns to the place of his birth to tell its fascinating and exciting story.
He describes the East End as the stomach of London, with the limbs of London, as it were, taking the "food" that is brought in from the stomach. ... ...his attempt to explain that the East end has become tired of being the stomach and wants to grow into a head, is an analogy too far. As with many places, I would contend that the East End is changing not because it particularly wants to, but because other people are making it changer. And there is, I think, a big difference.
Berkoff starts his story with the Battle of Cable Street, which took place in 1936. Sadly, Berkoff proves that there is no ...

"Do You Sell Bath Plugs?"
Advantages: Palin, interesting interviewees, more insight than 'Around the World' Disadvantages: None if you yearn to travel and like Palin.
...ultimate new Olympic event - Full Circling." With this depth of content in mind and due to the fact that some episodes are more enjoyable than others, the following are brief synopses and assessments of each episode to give a taste of the dvd's offerings. I have been as selective as possible, as whilst on the one hand I find it helpful to know at least a skeleton outline when buying a documentary dvd, I do not want to make this review the length ... ...and to skimp anymore would be a disservice to the dvd.
SYNOPSES AND OPINIONS
.....Episode One - Alaska and Russia
The grey skies over a bleak landscape of rock and sparse greenery of Little Diomede, Alaska, (Palin's departure point) somewhat reflect the slow and inauspicious start to this series. Palin takes a while to warm to his task though his good humour prevails as this programme slowly crunches its way into gear, just like the archaic modes ...

Himalaya - Michael Palin
I am reviewing this 3 disc set on DVD, obviously, otherwise it wouldn't be a disc set. There are some extras on this DVD, they are: -
Exclusive Pre-Trip Introduction on all three discs
Extended Scenes
Scene selection, There is over 90 minutes of Bonus Footage on this DVD
It is rated 12, as there is moderate sexual detail.
Running time approx 352 minutes.
Also with subtitles, in English.
Series producer & Director ... ...a fantastic view of the Himalaya mountains.
Well as you can guess from the title it is about the journey of one man, Michael Palin, who at his age is remarkably fit, and needed to be to go on this amazing journey.
Rather than list all the separate titles of each scene that are on the DVD, I will try to explain what is so amazing about this DVD.
After watching this for the third time, I am still amazed at the sheer will power of Michael Palin, ...

* Get Fit With Claire *
Advantages: Fun Disadvantages: Not many!
I used to be a HUGE Steps fan in my younger days! I was mad about them! I had all their CDs , Videos , Books , T Shirts , Scarfs , Posters , Mugs .... if it had a Steps logo on it , I had it. So as you can image I was pretty gutted when they split up. Fast forward seven years and Claire Richards , ex member of Steps , is back on the scene with a fitness DVD which helped her drop five dress sizes! I remember, it was Christmas last year, when the DVD ... ...it was too expensive. I can't remember exactly how much it was at the time , although I think it might have been aroung £17 which I thought was far too much to pay for a fitness DVD. So I decided I would wait. I waited so long that I forgot about the DVD , until recently. I was browsing through the DVD pages on Amazon when I came across the DVD selling for £12.98 ; still quite expensive considering that the DVD is now a year old. However I still ...

Does Jeremy Kyle really access all areas of quality?
Advantages: Gives an insider view of the popular TV show. Disadvantages: Bit expensive for what it is. Not a lot more than you would get in a standard episode.
The Jeremy Kyle has established itself as one of the staples of daytime TV today. Since 2005 it has covered interesting and often controversial issues such as paternity disputes (most common), infidelity, feuding neighbours and drug and alcohol addicts. However there are some uplifting issues that they deal with, such as family reunions and rejuvenating torn-down estates where crime and depravity are rife. The most well-konwn feature of the show ... ...at the studio and film Jeremy himself being pampered ready for the recording. The bulk of the 83 minutes of the DVD however I regret to say is not much more than an ordinary episode (though it was made especially for the DVD and has such never been broadcast on TV). There are 2 DNA tests and one lie detector test (I shan't give away the results). When watching this I did feel that the DVD wasn't perhaps worth the £12.71 I paid for it (which to be ...
