Uh oh, the boys from South Park are back this time bigger, longer and uncut.
In a full length film, the South Park crowd are back, some are going to be offended, others entertained and others confused. There was a lot of debate with this film, some of the language is fowl, and there is no denying that. If you are offended, then simply stay away, but I am sure there is still a big enough audience out there. The film is a 15 rating, well deserved. There was talk of making it an 18, but that would deprive a wide South Park audience of people below 18 without fake I.D. There is a story line to the film, but if you enjoyed the TV series and want a nice excuse to laugh then this is the film for you.
The basic plot is there, but it all seems an excuse to cram as many swear words in 78 minutes, and insult as many people and cultures in the same time. The film is related to the famous South Park TV series, with all the same characters, setting and so on. Kyle, Cartman, Kenny and Stan are back, as are all the favourites. The boys sneak into an ‘R’ rated movie with the help of a hobo. The film is by a Canadian duo Terrence and Phillip, just like this film is there
is plenty of bad language, and the boys come out with lots of new foul mouthed obscenities. As part of the film, one of the characters sets a fart on fire, Kenny copies this and unfortunately he dies in the process. There are two main plots running side by side, Kenny goes to Hell where he runs into the Devil and Sadam Hussain being gay lovers. Satan has a plan to take over the up world, but is being overrun by Sadam who is the power behind the relationship. Elsewhere the boys mums are not too impressed by the new vocabulary they picked up, and hold Canada personally responsible, so start a campaign to destroy Canada, and execute Terrence and Phillip. It all comes to a funny head with every one combinig as Cartman, Stan, Kyle and the other South Park kids start a campaign to free Terrence and Phillip, and the ending is very funny.
The fact is the story line is pretty weak all just getting as many digs at people as possible. The problem is the language, it is bad and very understandable if people are offended. Personally I found it funny, being light hearted and seeing the funny side. All Canadian people are seen as dot eyed with cut out heads, cant say about (pronounced aboot), and Bryan Adams. Sadam Hussain is clearly picked out, the Devils gay lover cannot get too much more offensive. Also the American’s are digging fun at each other, the American mothers getting power obsessed, the racist army leaders and the Baldwin’s who are tragically killed by a Canadian bombing raid.
Again, I am not defending the swearing, it is too over the top even by my standards and they often just throw in some bad language to get a cheep laugh. It is a cheep shot, but there is some more subtle humor in there. Ok so this is not the place to go for a political and educated satire, but it is good for a laugh, and maybe not as tasteless as some people will make out. There are lots of songs, as part of the DVD they go into more detail. Some are funny, just a laugh, others catchy and some are actually quite good music. It is not a musical, but the sound is there throughout and there are more songs than other comedy flicks. It sounds good on the DVD especially.
Unfortunately the DVD is nothing special. The DVD is two sided, one wide screen in a 1:85:1 and the other in regular 1:33:1 ratio. The sound is in Dolby 5:1 ratio, just to make sure all those bad words come out extra clear. The features do let the film down, or rather the lack of them. You have all the menu screens that select language subtitles, and so on. Apart from the standard thing, there are some trailers for the film, some videos of the music on the film, and some more clips. Maybe it would have been hard to do a ‘making of’, but the lack of features do let the DVD down.
There will obviously be mixed reactions with this film, it is just one of those that is meant to be controversial. This time it is not sex, drugs or anything else, just very, very bad language and lot of it. People will be offended, but I am not forcing them to watch this film, and I doubt that people that went to see it have changed their habits or language totally because of the 80 odd minutes of action. People may well complain, and I have to admit that the language is a bit extreme, but there is a 15 rating on this and if you are easily shocked or offended then just stay away from this. There will be people who laugh at this, and the film is aimed squarely at them (me included). I hope this review has been helpful, you decide if you want to see it now or not.

Nice op, in my opinion South Park is perfect as it is. Great fun - not to be taken seriously - but with a poignant undercurrent. Cheers.

LOL! Loved the bit about the otherwise exclusion of under-18s without fake ID! Haven't seen the film; I find South Park only ocassionally funny but will keep an eye out. TT.
Advantages: This movie is absoulutely hilarious, and is perfect for South Park fans. Disadvantages: This film is NOT for children or the easily offended.
Advantages: very funny, extremely silly, plenty of clever lines, and an interesting message beneath it all Disadvantages: very vulgar, will offend the easily offended with no trouble at all.
