Advantages: Hilarious comedy, good viewing Disadvantages: only 3 episodes, expensive to buy whole set individually
Another installement to my DVD collection - the epic and classic comedy hero - Mr Bean. I love Rowan Atkinson, especially in Black Adder and also in the classic Mr Bean episodes. Despite my mood before hand, after watching Mr Bean I always feel much better, he always manages to intrigue my imagination with his biazarre mannerisms and abilty to turn the most straight forward of tasks into complete disaters!
Having not being able to buy the whollebox set I have had to purchase and review each DVD volume one by one.
This DVD contains 3 episodes, each with 3 or 4 sketches in them. All of whihc are brilliant and this DVD includes one of my favourites - the one where he goes to the swimming pool and clings to the diving board. The three episodes are entitled: Episode 1. 'The Curse Of Mr Bean', Episode 2. 'Mr Bean Goes To Town ...
Advantages: Wonderfully written, some fantastic stories Disadvantages: Not quite as charming or memorable as its predecessor
make out the characters and moments that went on to inspire his much-loved children's fiction. Where Boy was full of odious, fearsome adults who quite clearly shaped the antagonists of his later books, GoingSolo deals with a different kind of material; especially where he relates his time flying in the RAF in World War Two, these villainous caricatures are absent, replaced by a harder reality.
Dahl's stories here are no less entertaining, but he does not attempt to make light or draw comedy from the wartime he experienced. Rather, the author lays open his younger self's naive mindset and thought processes in a lightly self-deprecating manner which gives the narrative a faintly romantic, uplifting edge that sits well alongside the death and destruction the stories explore.
Dahl certainly has an impressive story to tell. As a pilot ...
Advantages: entertains the kids Disadvantages: not brilliant, not that funny, more cute than funny
. However this defeats the object of the Beanmeister. He was supposed to be old fashioned and quirky, living in the ignorance of modern advances of technology and updated fashion trends.
Saying this, the kids appear to love it. Why I ask it really is not funny, and he talks too much. The old mr bean got in trouble incidently, this cartoon version appears to go looking for it.
The DVD consists of one disc and features eight animated episodes each lasting abou 15 - 20 minutes in length, including: 'No Pets', 'Ray Of Sunshine', 'Birthday Bear', 'The Mole', 'Roadworks', 'The Sofa', 'Treasure' and 'Homeless'. In these episodes we see a cartoon version of the classic Mr Bean go about his daily chores, celebrate his teddy's birthday, get in trouble with the police and even manages to loose possesion of his home.
Overall I'm awarding a 3 star ...
