I watched this this afternoon, and it isnt too bad a film, although the ending is a bit strange.
Clooney plays a psychologist, sent to a shuttle which is monitoring Solaris, to find out what is making them ill.
When he gets there, you start to find out more about it. Only 2 survivors are there, and they are not friendly at first. Gradually, without giving too much away, his wife comes to visit him. She is real in every way, although at first he cant accept it and sends her off into space.
The next night she is back, completely unaware. As time goes on, we find out all the characters have their 1 special person. Clooney is torn between his loyalty to his wife, strong because we find out that on Earth theyhad argued, she killed herself, and he never got over the guilt, and his brain which is telling him she cant possibly be there with him, even though she is.
The remaining crew try to get him to realise, but he isnt really sure. We find out that his wife on Earth had had an abortion without telling him, which caused the big row.
All the way through, theres something missing. Even the space version of the wife knows she isnt really her but a clone and asks him to kill her because she cant live a lie.
As they then find out that the ship is being pulled closer to Solaris, the crew make an escape bid. This is where the film goes odd.
We see clooney go into the escape pod, AND we see him remain on the ship as it gets pulled in. Near the end, we see him back home, but he cuts himself and heals( a sign he is the imaginary one) and so we see he has now got a copy.
The copy ends up being at home with the copy wife. The human clooney stays on the ship with a child. I assumed the child was the aborted child he wanted so much, and the copy stayed with the wife because he wanted her so much. Everyone stayed where they wanted.
I may have completely missed the meaning, I think I have LOL, but its not too bad a film.
I didnt like how much silence there was, ok its setting mood, but it gets boring, and the woman playing clooneys wife bothered me with the mad eyes and pointy face 'natascha mcelhone'
It is a good film for sci fi fans or light thriller fans. The whole thing about what Solaris is doesnt get explained, its merely observant of the effects but one to watch if you get chance!
