about a wedlock-shy coffee house poet who finally meets the perfect woman. When it comes to love, Charlie Mackenzie (Myers) has had his share of bad luck: Sherri was a klepto- Charlie still can't find his cat. Jill was unemployed- but Charlie knew she really worked for the Mafia. Pam smelled like soup- beef and vegetable soup. Good thing for these shortcomings became apparent, if only to him. Good thing for Charlie he discovered the truth before things went too far- before he stumbled into marriage! Because to Charlie the 'M' word is just one step away from the fate foretold in that chilling phrase Till Death Do Us Part. When Charlie meets Harriet Michaels (Travis) everything changes. Harriet's not like the others. She's smart, sexy and crazy about Charlie. This time Charlie is determined to overcome the fears that sabotages his past relationships. This time, he's ready for some commitment. Sure, Harriet may have her shortcomings - but so what? After all those other women, what's the worst she could be? An axe murderer?

Mike Myers's screwball idea of funny. That this script had been through a lot of hands in Hollywood before Myers agreed to star in it (using hisWayne's Worldclout) seems amazing as most of the truly funny bits here seem to be straight from Myers. Most memorable is his role as his own irascible Scottish father, screaming at his youngest son and talking about the Bay City Rollers. But Myers also plays Charlie, a bookshop owner/poet who falls in love with a "hardhearted harbinger of haggis", the local butcher (Nancy Travis), who may also be a serial killer. Mostly enjoyable, but there's also some weird stuff here. Try as you might, you may never rid yourself of the image of Brenda Fricker and Anthony LaPaglia making out. Also features a great soundtrack with Soul Asylum and Toad the Wet Sprocket.--Keith Simanton

When I first watched this movie it was purely by chance and chance for once dealt me a good one. Most my friends are probably ... ...Me and Stuart McKenzie from So I Married an Axe Murderer. OK so it is basically the same impression I do for both but it is the same voice that Mike Myers uses for both – I will use these impressions at any given opportunity and I am convinced that if I start shouting “There is a piper down, piper down” at another party then my girlfriend will leave me.

This movie is racist. Well it could be considered racist if you are Scottish. I am Scottish and I love this movie. So the conclusion I have come to is that this movie can be considered racist if you are Scottish and have absolutely no sense of humour.
When I first watched this movie it was purely by chance and chance for once dealt me a good one. I would never have rented this if it was not a slow release week, I had never seen Wayne’s World, and my friend who was with me was not in a hurry. Most my friends are probably a bit pissed off that I saw this one though. You see I can do two impressions – Fat Bastard from Austin Powers the Spy Who Shagged Me and Stuart McKenzie from So I Married an Axe Murderer. OK so it is basically the same impression I do for both but it is the same voice that Mike Myers uses for both – I will use these impressions at any given opportunity and I am convinced that if I start shouting “There is a piper down, piper down” at another party then my girlfriend will leave me.
So what attracted me to this movie when I was in the video shop?
I had seen Wayne’s World previous to this and was also a big fan of Saturday Night Live (which was showing on MTV at the time and was where the Wayne’s World was first shown as a sketch). This meant that I was aware of Mike Myers and I was willing to give this movie a chance. The fact that I now own this on video and have watched it countless times should suggest that I liked it a wee bit. In fact this is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.
PLOT~~~
Charlie (Myers) is a professional poet (who is a poet these days?) who has trouble with women. Every serious girlfriend he has had so far has had some problem that has put Charlie off. (One smelled of soup another stole his cat …serious problems indeed) Needless to say Charlie is not the most stable of people around women.
Then he falls in love with Harriet (Nancy Travis). The only problem is the longer he spends with her the more evidence he seems to find that fingers her as a serial killer who murders her new husbands. Is Charlie to be the next victim?
What do I think then? ~~~
The story is not the main feature of the movie. This has a superb cast with Anthony LaPaglia, Amanda Plummer and Oscar winner Brenda Fricker in the supporting roles.
Myers has written wonderful characters with his Scottish family being a moment of sheer genius. Charlie’s father (who is also played by Myers) has to be one of the most original and amusing people in a movie. In fact I think that it could be this character to holds the piece together with quick quips, usually aimed at his youngest son who has a head that is slightly larger than average shall we say. “Heid move it! Now. Would ye look at the size of that noggin? It is a virtual planetoid. It should have its own weather system.” And the immortal one liners “Heid, pants, now!”
This is not a movie for those of you who want an Oscar winner. This is not even a movie for those of you who want to think a little. This is a sit back, relax, and drink some beer movie. It will have you in stitches if you do not expect too much from it. This is a piece of cinematic nonsense at its very best and I would recommend this to anyone.
P.S. This movie has a great soundtrack. Including the LAs - There she goes.

...murderer .
The film So I Married an Axe Murderer was made in 1993. It was directed by Thomas Schlamme and written by Robbie Fox. The film was billed as a 15 (Meaning it is unsuitable for anyone under this age to watch) in the UK. It is in the comedy genre and although the main cast aren’t all well known they certainly do the film justice. Cast is as follows…
Mike Myers .... Charlie Mackenzie/Stuart Mackenzie
Nancy Travis .... Harriet Michaels
... ...is fantastic in it. The cast work well together and the film isn’t too long at 93 minutes, so you won’t get bored or a numb bum, well not too much anyway. I give this 10 out of 10 and say if you haven’t seen it, go and get it! ...

Advantages: Excellent film, decent plot & Mike Myers! Disadvantages: How does he live when all he does is write poetry?
I can’t ever deny being a fan of Mike Myers. Most of his humour is right up my street, and although he didn’t write it his two roles in “So I Married An Axe Murderer” are right up my street.
Firstly there is Charlie McKenzie, young batchelor, seemingly frightened of commitment. Then there is Stuart McKenzie, Charlie’s father, an eccentric and a full-blooded Scot to boot. They are both wonderful characters, although Stuart McKenzie might just be ... ...There are plenty of other excellent characters, like Charlie’s best friend Tony, and Tony’s boss in the police department, but the other central character is Harriet, a woman Charlie falls dangerously in love with.
The film’s plot is decent enough too, with lots of twists, turns and amusing side incidents. Lots of laughs and a couple of nice twists too.
One point of criticism - Charlie McKenzie lives as a beat poet. How does he survive when all ...

...the wrong side of surreal, so you may not get the most out of this unless you "get" Myers brand of humour. O the acting front, Myers leaves enough room for everyone else to put in good performances The film ends in with a silly roof fight but it's a fun enough ride on the way and worth watching. Not the funniest film, ever but you could do a lot, lot, worse than watching this. ...

DVD Description
Charlie Mackenzie (Mike Myers) is a love-shy 'poet' living in San Francisco, who frequents neighbourhood coffee houses reciting his tortured odes to unrequited love. Burned by a string of failed relationships, Mackenzie's fear of commitment has intensified into outrageous extremes of paranoia. When he finds himself falling for the sweet-faced butcher (Nancy Travis) at his local meat shop, he sees it as a final chance for love to overcome his painful cynicism. Feeling he has squelched his nagging fears, Mackenzie marries the woman. But his anxiety quickly manifests itself in the conviction that his betrothed is actually an infamous axe murderer whose antics are described in juicy detail in each week's issue of the Weekly World News. Myers also plays his own father, Stuart Mackenzie, a football-loving, Rod Stewart-singing Scotsman who repeatedly refers to Charlie's over-cranial younger brother William as 'Head'.
