Samuel L Jackson stars in this all action film about well obviously some snakes on a plane! But there is a bit more to it than that!
Sean Jones (Nathan Phillips) witnesses a murder by big time mobster Eddie Kim (Byron Lawson) in Hawaii. He is spotted and Kim comes after him. Samuel L Jackson is FBI agent Neville Flynn who has the job of getting Sean from Hawaii to LA in order to testify against the mobster and put him away. Reluctantly and fearing for his life Sean agrees to this.
The FBI think of all possible scenarios of Eddie getting to the witness, but they didn't think of this one. The mobster arranges for numerous deadly snakes to be loaded on to the plane and then sprays pheromones onto the lays which each passenger will be wearing. (The flowers you wear around your neck in Hawaii). The pheromones cause the snakes to be aggressive and attack without provocation.
Once the snakes start to work there way around the plane, it becomes comparable to movies such as Jaws. The victims are in numerous situations and you can see the snakes heading towards them. One such scene is a couple joining the mile high club in the toilet, another a woman is fumbling around in a bag without looking, with her hand inches away from the snake. This continues for a while, killing off a fair few passengers with the other passengers being oblivious to the situation. Until the snakes blow part of the planes electrics and one of the pilots is killed. This is when Agent Flynn is spurred into action. The rest of the film is then about surviving the flight and defeating the snakes. Flynns ultimate aim being to get Sean to LA to testify and save as many other passengers as possible.
To add to the story, one of the air hostesses is on her last flight as she is changing jobs. Another is only on this flight because she turned down early retirement.
With as many different ways to kill a snake as you can think of, as well as how many ways to die at the hands of a snake, the action is constant through the film. Jackson plays the hero brilliantly throwing in a few one liners such as 'Well thats good news snakes on crack'. There were some lines that seemed to contain the f word just for the sake of adding cool to Agent Flynn, coming across anything but. There is more humour in the film, particularly when the snakes first start to attack. Some of this humour is a litte on the silly side in places. The plane is a mix of characters, the particularly unlikable ones getting their comeuppance in the end as you would expect. The end of the film is very funny if not a little unrealistic, but the ending you would expect this film to have.
The soundtrack playing out at the end of the film is quite funky too!
I found the film a good mix of action, suspense, jumpy scenes, humour and story. Its no award winner, but a good film all the same. Recommended for a night in with a couple of beers!

Advantages: There are a couple of amusing deaths Disadvantages: Appallingly low production values, no sense of its own stupidity and total nonsensicality
Advantages: Something a bit different from the norm, some classic one liners Disadvantages: Unrealistic storyline, not for those with strong phobias of snakes
