Sorry to say but I didn't like this very much at all and I am very surprised it got as good a following as it did.
The film is about a young man, Jamal played by Dev Patel an English actor playing an Indian young man, who goes onto the Indian version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and wins the top prize of 20 million rupees.
When he has won 10million rupees and the show is stopped for the end of that episode, Jamal is arrested on suspision of cheating, and questioned by police about every answer he has gotten right.
He goes back in "time" to tell us about his childhood with his brother Salim and friend Latika who have been left with no family and are forced to work and beg for a living.
It follows through until the present time.
I heard amazing things about this film, everyone was going on it was wondeful, but to be honest I found the storyline dry and boring. I thought it was going to be much more spectacular than it was, but all I found was it was a bit stupid, and put me off ever going to India.
The only bit of the film I enjoyed was the ending.
I found a few annoyances were 1) why would you have a show like Who wants to be a Millionaire if you were going to arrest anyone who got to the final stage on suspicion of cheating. AND why did the young kids in the past sequences, all of a sudden despite been veryyyyy poor before then, and never ever speaking english before, ALL of a sudden start talkign english even though before they were speaking in full Indian, a website claims they would have "learned from tourists", but they start speaking in full English, with no problems straight away, and then always spoke in English when together and not only with tourists!!
I'm sorry to all those who loved this film, it just wasn't what I expected from the film at all. No good sorry!!!!
