1890, choreographed by the legendary ballet master Marius Petipa, was doubtless the pinnacle of classic Russian ballet tradition.Tchaikovsky's score, composed in 1889 was created based on a scenario from Petipa that took the composer's wishes into account from the outset. It was a number ballet score, which was a homage to the baroque ballet de cour. The premiere of Sleeping Beauty was not greeted with enthusiasm by the theatre-going public. Critics complained of the work's exclusively fairytale character. Tchaikovsky's music was regarded as too serious and heavy, thus making it more suitable for the concert hall. Of utmost importance to the spread of ballet in Western Europe was a 1921 production by Serge Diaghilev and his Ballet Russes at the Alhambra Theatre in London. Leon Bakst created the artistic stage setting, while Igor Stravinsky re-instrumentalized several pieces for this work.

A beautiful Disney film. I have to say, I could really feel the Disney magic and charm when I watched this film. I absolutely love it, it is a timeless classic.
It has a wonderful soundtrack which was adapted from the Tchaikovsky score and classic Disney songs that everyone knows the words to!
The story revolves around the Princess Aurora, who at her birth receives presents from the good fairies of wit and beauty, but the wicked fairy who is angry at not being invited to the birth puts an enchantment on the Princess that she will prick her finger on a spindle on reaching adulthood and die. Although the spell can't be reversed, the good fairies manage to alter the spell so that she won't die, but fall in to a deep sleep until awoken by the kiss of a Prince.
Of course, she pricks her finger on a spindle, despite the Kingdom burning ...
Advantages: Simply Disney Disadvantages: You may wear the DVD out.
When someone says SleepingBeauty my first thought is the ballet. I saw the Royal Ballet perform SleepingBeauty a few years ago at the ENO whilst the ROH was being refurbished and it was magical. I completly forgot Disneys classic, although I must have watched it a hundred times as a child, how soon we forget but how lovely to discover again.
So how does a cartoon compare to to the Ballet, quite simply it doesn't and shouldn't.
In time honoured fashion the Disney Film captures the story with all the elements you'd expect. Fantastic score which you just can't help singing along to, loveable characters and sinister characters. The story is told with all the flair and artistry one comes to not only expect but is an absolute must from Disney.
Young or old this is a film that could quite easily keep you entertained for an hour ...
Advantages: Clean and tidy and very friendly. Disadvantages: No restaurant.
Around four months ago I travelled to London to do a photo shoot, I was very excited as I had been out of modelling for a while but I was also very nervous as I had not worked with the photographer before and was staying in a hotel I had never used before also. The shoot went very well and the hotel I stayed in was beautiful so all was good in the end.
The hotel in question was the SleepingBeauty Hotel; Ciao has called it the sleepingbeauty motel but it was definitely hotel on the brochure, anyway never mind. The hotel is situated in Leyton which is in the East of London, so not a hotel you would be likely to use for a typical sightseeing holiday to London as you are well away from the attractions.
Nearby the hotel is a KFC, a Wetherspoon`s bar, a Tesco store and a closed down Woolworths, so nothing too exciting but this was ...
