the beginning of 2007, and in short space built itself an impressive, dedicated following. Skins is set in and around the lives of a group of friends who live in Bristol. In their late teens, and each at sixth form college, this compelling drama then follows the various problems and challenges that its characters face. What stands Skins apart from many other shows that have tackled similar ground is the sheer down-to-earth of it. The first series dedicates its individual episodes mainly to a certain character each, although that doesn't stop the assorted story arcs of the others from building too. And amidst them all is some terrific acting, quality writing, and gritty, grounded drama, albeit not without humour. Given the age of the characters within Skins, it's clearly a show skewed towards a reasonably young late-teen demographic, and that's going to leave some who sample the programme a little cold. But there's still little getting away from the fact that this first series is some achievement, and the many who do embrace the show aren't going to be disappointment by this terrific DVD collection. --Jon Foster

DVD Description
Channel 4's critically-acclaimed drama follows the angst-ridden lives of its teenage characters, as they grapple with issues of race, religion, sexuality, drugs, and eating disorders. SKINS' portrayal of these characters as poster children of the hedonistic lifestyle is unflinching in its candour. Expect plenty of bitching, backstabbing, and general bad behaviour in the show's debut series, presented here in its entirety.

Review: Funny, pacey and authentic (Daily Mirror, 27/03/2008)
It's official, we're addicted to Skins (Heat, 27/03/2008)
This is TV at its best: feisty, polarising and compelling (The Times, 27/03/2008)
Advantages: compelling throughout, twists and turns Disadvantages: unsatisfactory ending, becomes very dark and gloomy!
.... That is the best episode in the whole of Skins, series1 & 2. I think the final 2 episodes were diabolical, however I have the first series and therefore must have the second!...

Advantages: It's hysterical Disadvantages: Only six episodes in series 1
...For those of you that are missing skins this is just as brilliant. IT has the same basic theme ... teenage disaters but the characters are slightly less cool which gives rise to even more laughs.
The main character , will , has just moved from a posh private school to the local high school, as his parents have divorced. The first episode sees his hysterical attempts to make friends. He manages this ...just and although their not the cool kids thier better than the geeks. Following episode see the gang trying and failing to meet girls, buy alcohol and stoy out of the way of the school bully.
There is both obvious and dry humour and anyone under 30 will watch this and remember similar events from there own school days. You will totally be able to empathise with the characters, laugh at them, cringe at them and hope they get the girls...

joey Review ofJoey - The Complete First Season DVDby
scottergirdham
Advantages: excellent comical value Disadvantages: wheres the rest fo the friends cast?
...This is a great series! How can people not like it, its the best character from friend in a whole series!! Joey has become a totally different person and there are so many new sides to him now!! This is highly recommended to all joey/friends fans alike. And the woman who plays his sister.. couldnt have chose a better actress. She plays the ultimate sibling and makes the series so much better along with the neurotic neighbour and the geeky nephew. I have these series on dvd disk and would reommend you to buy these. The retail price is very reasonable for the comical value of the series. I would also suggest that if buying series1, purchase series 2 also! Definatly a must buy for all people!...
