Advantages: Great action film with something for all Disadvantages: It finished!
...Bought this film on a whim really. Wasn't sure what it would be like but heard it was supposed to be good. Well I'm now happy to confirm that it's brilliant.
A little background - I am lucky enough to have a 7ft cinema screen in my lounge with full Dolby surround from 7 speakers so it's just like being at the cinema only with very comfy seats. I have 2 children - aged 7 and 2 years and we sat down to watch this as a family.
The nitty gritty - It was full of action & great special effects. Both kids were hooked from the start. Jack Sparrow is a brilliant character, a very mad one, but brilliant &andis very well cast.
The story line and music was great too. When it came to special effects they were amazing. Especially the skeletons/half men. The monkey was great too. There was lots of fast action with fighting but also a love story...

Advantages: A heart-warming tale of love against the odds. Disadvantages: Shades of necrophilia
...on that characterize any collaboration between Tim Burton and Danny Elfman. Of particular note is the skeleton jazz band, my personal favourite five mintues of the film.
The characters are all well animated, including, as I have mentioned, the skeleton jazz band. They display a certain polish that is absent from the Nightmare before Christmas.
In summary, it's a classic of the genre.
Watch it, whoever you are. It's good...

Advantages: Good special effects Disadvantages: none
...This is a really good film from start to finnish.
There are some good one line jokes and the visual effects are stunning. Johny Depp is a natural pirate and his costume is a laugh a minute. If I was to make a critisism then it would be that it takes a while for the film to explain why the ghost pirates are like they are! The scenery is very good and the ships very realistic. The sword fighting scenes are wild and put together very well. The visual effect of when the pirates change into skeletons is very good and realistic. The film is fast flowing and keeps you interested from start to finnish. There is a bit of everything in this film. No DVD collector should be without this film in their collection....
