This review is about the DVD "The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants". The movie is based on the book by Ann Brashares. Coincidentally, I found the trailer of this movie on the internet and I looked like a great movie. I bought the book then, because the movie didn´t come within the next two months. I loved the book and couldn´t wait to see it on screen, but when it finally started I found out that it wouldn´t be shown in the theatres near me. In autumn the DVD finally came out and I bought it immediatly.
1) Content of the movie ++++++++++++++++++++ The four friends Lena Kaligaris, Bridget Vreeland (Bee), Carmen Lowell and Tabitha Tomko-Rollins (Tibby) have known each other since before their birth, because their mothers had been in a pregnancy aerobic course together. They are all born in summer. Since then they have spent all holidays and summers together. But now, at age 16, they spend their first summer apart. Lena visits her grandparents on the island Santorini in Greece, Bridget spends her summer in a football camp, Carmen whose parents got divorced visits her father and Tibby stays at home to earn some money working in a supermarket. Shortly before they say goodbye, the four girls find a pair of jeans which magically fits all of them, even Carmen who is a bit thick. They decide to let the pants travel among them. In important moments the pants shall help them. And so they part and go on their own for the first time... Lena meets a boy named Kostos in Greece. He wants to go out with her, but their families hate each other. Lena´s grandparents forbid Lena to see Kostos again. She tries to concentrate on her art, but soon she can´t bare those interdictions anymore... Bridget whose mum had died five years ago gets to know her young football coach Eric soon. Obviously she flirts with him, but he turns her offers down. She works herself up into everything ... Carmen doesn´t see her father very often and is very glad to spend some time with him. But when she arrives, she gets shocked: Her father is engaged to blonde woman who has already got two kids herself and lives in the suburb with them. Soon she experiences cultural differences (she´s half Puertorican) . The wedding preperations make her go crazy and she feels like she doesn´t belong to her father anymore and doesn´t fit into his new life... Tibby wants to buy a new camera set with her earned money, but while she has to work for it, she makes a documentary called "Suckumentary". Through an embarrassing situation she gets to know elevenyear old Bailey. Bailey helps Tibby with her Suckumentary. First Tibby doesn´t like Bailey very much, because she is so much younger, but later she discovers how special Bailey is and is confronted with Bailey´s disease...
2) Actresses +++++++++++
Alexis Bledel as Lena Kaligaris Alexis Bledel is mostly known for playing Rory Gilmore in the TV series "Gilmore girls". Also she played in the movies "Tuck Everlasting", "Bride and Prejudice" and "Sin City". In this movie she played Lena very well. Lena is a very beautiful girl who has got problems with that, because all the people judge her because of her beauty. Alexis Bledel made a great job showing this. Also she is very authentic.
Blake Lively as Bridget Vreeland This was Blake Lively's first big movie. She only had acted as the tooth fairy in the movie "Sandman". For being her first movie role Blake did an exeptional good job. She is very authentic, too.
America Ferrera as Carmen Lowell Her first movie role was in "Real women have curves" ( a very good movie). Furthermore you could she her in the movie "Lords of Dogtown". I think America fits great into this movie as Carmen. Especially becauseshe isn´t so thin. Like the others, America Ferrera acted very authenticly and great.
Amber Tamblyn as Tibby Tomko-Rollins You could know Amber Tamblyn from the TV series "Joan of Arcadia". Also she was in General Hospital, Twilight Zone and Buffy. I like her very much. Her punk style in this movie with the piercing in her nose and the blue highlights fits great for Tibby´s character.
3) compared to the book ++++++++++++++++++++ As I already said the movie is based on the book by Ann Brashares. Unfortunatly they always have to leave out things, but this time it was ok. Just Lena´s story was changed very much. In the book she has got a sister (Effie) who comes with her to Greece. There her grandparents want to make a match between Kostos and Lena, but Lena is afraid of love or just being loved because of her beauty. When she explores the island, she discovers a little pond far awayof everything. She decides to go swimming. But then Kostos apears and sees her totally naked. At home she is too embarassed to tell her grandparents who think Kostos beset Lena. This is a huge difference compared to the movie. Bridget´s story is almost the same, but they changed the ending. Now the basics for Bridget´s story in the second book are destroyed and it will be hard to get it right again. But I don´t know if there is going to be a second movie anyway. All the problems are well deveploped and put into action. You don´t find movies based on books that good often.
4) The DVD content ++++++++++++++++
a) Additional Scenes with Comentary by ken Kwapis The additional scenes are very good. Especially the one with Lena watching her grandparents who act like teenagers in love.
b) Fun on the Set Here you can see some outtakes and behind the camera views. There you can see how much fun the girls had. I like this part very much.
c)Suckumentary This is the result of Bailey´s and Tibby´s work.
d) Sisters, Secrets and the Travelling Pants Here Amber, Alexis and America watch some scenes of the movie together and tell a lot of funny things. It is like a DVD night of some friends and you feel as if you would sit with them there.
e) A Coversation with Author Ann Brashares Here the author Ann Brashares talks about her book, the movie and her visions. It is quite interesting.
5) facts about the movie ++++++++++++++++++++
Director: Ken Wapis (About a boy) screenplay: Delia Ephron (You´ve got Mail, Bewitched) certification: PG length: 119 minutes Region: 1 language: English Dolby Digital
6) My final opinion +++++++++++++++
I love this movie. You "plunge" into this movie and you can feel with this girls very much. Some scenes are very moving and tearful. All the actors and actresses are great, also the ones I didn´t mention like Kostos. This is not a shallow teenie movie, though you could think so. It is a very nice story with lovely characters. People who knowthe books might not like this movie, because theyt hink too many things are changed / left out, but it didn´t bother me. I would recommend this movie for woman and girls, who like those stories. And I really hope there is going to be a second movie.
Advantages: The trite script, direction and irritating performances Disadvantages: It'll keep some twelve year-olds off the street
...were wearing them.
"The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants" is a film that certainly knows its tweenage audience and panders to it at every available attempt. Director Ken Kwapis has made his living directing TV shows and the tics and tricks he learnt there are in stark evidence here. The film is episodic, hackneyed and unbearably bland. It would have worked better as a half-hourly series in which each episode focussed on one character instead of ... ...Yet a Woman"?!?
"The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants" is a stupendously underwhelming bundle of clichés that will no doubt go down a storm with its intended audience; the vapid twelve year-olds that couldn't reel off their fake dates of birth to get into a fifteen certificate film. It wants to be a feel-good film that leaves you with a spring in your step and renewed faith in humanity. But it is more likely to stick in your craw, with rising ...

...is the beginning of the sisterhood of the traveling pants.
Each of the girls takes their week to wear the pants and as they experience different things in their lives, learn more about themselves and other people around them they pass the jeans on from to the other, including in the package notes upon how they got on with the jeans and what they experienced while in them. I loved this quote from the end of the movie, I think it definitely sums up the story, without giving away the plot….

Story Line:
The film is based on the Ann Brashares bestselling novel. It is about four best friends who are going to be separated for the first time for the summer holidays. The each experience life, love and loss together as friends even though they are miles apart from each other.
I won't tell you to much more as it will spoil the story!!
It is definitely not a film for the men, it is a female film, easy to watch and romantic and very girly at times.

Advantages: Great acting, Great story, Overall Great. Disadvantages: Doesn't stick to original story from book.
The Sisterhood of the travelling pants is one of the best Teen girl films ever. It tells the story of four best friends who have known eachother from birth as there mothers attended the same aerobics classes when pregnant. They always spend their summers together and the film tells the story of their first summer apart.
The Film starts by showing how close the girls are and shows how theyve decided to spend their summers. Bridget (Blake Lively) ... ...Having read all four sisterhood books i know the Fourthcoming movie "Sisterhood of the Travelling pants 2"-to be released later this year- will be just as good as this one. The only disadvantage i can find of this movie is that the story differs slightly from the one in the book and the one in the book is slightly better. Other than this i cant think of anything else to fault this movie. I highly recommend!! ...
