Singin' in the rain is a fabulous homage to the silent film era and the begining of "Talkies". Gene Kelly not only acts but co-directs this MGM production! With a major imput in the dancing, Kelly shows off his signture style especially in his key performance of 'Singin' in the Rain'.
The story is set at a time when silent films are making way for talking pictures. This proves to be too much for some of the silent movie stars turning melodrama to madness. From the start we are treated to a fabulous spectacle charting the rise of Lockward and Lemont, sweethearts of the silver screen. Privately the pair are constantly at logger heads, a situation not helped when a young aspiring actress Kathy Selden literally bursts into their lives!
Lockward is helped through his troubles by his best friend Cosmo, (Donald O'connor). O'Connor is a comic genius so much so that i'm always looking for other films he has stared in but have only found another staring Marilyn Monroe! Look out for his fabulous performance in the song 'Make 'um laugh'.
A very young Debbie Reynolds stared in her cinematic debut as Kathy. Reynold's stands strong against Kelly's polished professionalism and shakes any first time nerves she may have had. I particuarly like her first and second scenes with Kelly when he appears in her car and she appears out of a cake!
Lina Lamont played by Jean Hagen, is a fabulous character as the venomous high pitch silent star who tries to push Kathy into the shadows.
A fun watchable film, 'Singin' in th rain' proves why classic musicals are still as popular as ever. Cramed full of glitz and glam, look out for a cameo by Cyd Charisse who plays a cracking gangster moll!
Enjoy!

Good review of a classic film, but I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD features. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" above the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate.
