sound, remains one of the most joyous and beloved of all film musicals. Not only a classic example of the MGM musical at its highly polished best, Singing' in the Rain is also a lasting tribute to the incredible talent of star and co-director, Gene Kelly. Deftly tailored around a selection of perky, likeable songs written during the period by Nacio Herb Brown and the film's creative producer Arthur Freed, the amusing plot inspired a dazzling array of stylish dance routines; none more famous, of course, than Kelly's now legendary, wonderfully carefree frolic in the rain. With bright-eyed support from a young Debbie Reynolds and Donald O'Connor (whose madcap "Make 'em laugh" is another of the film's enduring highlights), plus the terrific MGM studio orchestra, this set of the entire score, complete with several out-takes, is guaranteed to chase the blues away. --Robert Seeley

Singin In The Rain is an interesting film that combines dance and movement with musical pieces. It is cleverly written with camera angles and other special effects that make the dancing come to life.
Each actor is able to combine a number of talents including dance, acting and singing. The actor's are good all round performers unlike you see nowadays. The all round performer reflects the time that this film was written because actors were trained then in all areas of performance. For anyone who loves musical type films they will probably love this film and want to add it to their collection. Equally this makes a fantastic gift for the lover of musical films.
If you are feeling down and want something to make you smile then this is the right kind of film to watch. It is not difficult to follow and has a really nice feel good element to it. Singin In The Rain is a well written Hollywood musical that was written by Pauline Kael. Pauline Kael seems to know how to blend all the important ingredients to make a spectaculor film that people will remember for years afterwards.
Don Lockwood is played by Gene Kelly who has a knock in confidence when Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds) makes it apparent what she thinks of actor's that are in films. Her feelings are that actor's in films are people who don't have much going for them and this upsets Don Lockwood. Don soon gets over the insult, but develops a strong crush on Kathy despite what she has said. Things do not run smoothly however since someone else has their eyes on Don, jealous and egotistical Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen). Lina wants Don all to herself and won't settle for anything less. Singin In The Rain gets very interesting in a pyramid love romance. Who will end up with the one they love?
What pursues makes an interesting story that is light hearted, entertaining and funny all at once. Singin In The Rain is the type of film that will never age. It appeals to all kinds of people and all age groups. There is no particular person that will like Singin In The Rain although a few people might have some complaints. All kinds of films cannot please everyone. Singin In The Rain has recieved praise for many years from all types of people. It is not just the story but, the music, dancing and cast of actors that is fantastic. The very mixture for Singin In The Rain is as close to perfect as you can get. There is a plot to the story but, it isn't as strong as some films due to the fact that there is a lot of singing and dancing routines so the plot takes a back seat.
All of the actor's give their very best performances even some of the supporting actor's like Donald O'Connor - next to Gene who is a brilliant supporting actor. It is good to see actor's giving it their all even when they are in the background for a large majority of the film. Singin In The Rain is such a massive success that all actor's in the film no matter how small their part have a worthy role. This version of Singin In The Rain is a two disc special edition that offers something extra for those that loved watching the film. It retails for around 14.36 GBP, but can be bought for a lot cheaper so do look around. The lowest price I have seen thisfilm for is around 3GBP and the most 14.36 GBP.

~~ My Opinion ~~
This is a great family film, you can spend just over 1.5 hours watching the story unfold, with a touch of romance, lots of laughter, song and dance.
Personally I love the film. Gene Kelly is a fantastic dancer, he has a kind of rugged yet sexy way about him, which was quite different from the swarve and sophistication of Fred ...
Advantages: Catchy, bright, cheerful and surprisingly funny Disadvantages: Its a musical: this will be enough for some

Dir: Stanley Donen, Gene Kelly.
Starring: Gene Kelly, Donald O'Connor, Debbie Reynolds, Jean Hagen
I should've subtitled this 'I don't like musicals, but'
As a rule, I'd give most films where the lead bursts into song a wide berth. For me, a film is credible (and therefore enjoyable) if you can believe in what is unfolding on the screen. How can you suspend belief if the actors suddenly start singing Cole Porter tunes for no apparent reason every 10 minutes? For instance my girlfriend cajoled me to watching 'Rent'. Don't get me wrong: it's worthy, serious stuff, but I had to turn it off after five minutes.
Personally, I am no musicals expert. Wouldn't be able to be analyse one on technical details alone. However, if a musical entertains me (like Mamma Mia did), it gets my seal ...
Advantages: It will have you singing all the classics, and attempting all the amazing dance moves! Disadvantages: your friends will have to put up with you attempting to sing all the songs and do all the dance moves!!!
will always remain funny. There are abviously many more songs than this, but these are the ones which inm my opinion are outstanding!
The performances by all the main charecters are brilliant, I just think it is a shame that in 2005 we dont have any film stars who can act, dance and sing quite as fantastically as gene, donald and debbie could on this film.
The Special eddition comes with a bonus DVD with some good features. It takes a look back at all the previous musicals to Singinin the rain and shows the uprising of the Musical Filmstar. It also shows where the songs featured inSinginin the rain originally came from and how they were chosen. There are also interviews with Donald O'Connor and Debbie Reynolds about the process of making the film itself. Overall the Bonus DVD is very good and the section with the different musicals ...

DVD Description
After years of honing his skills on the vaudeville stage, hoofer Don Lockwood (Gene Kelly) has finally reached the top and become a swashbuckling star of the silent silver screen. Then the self-satisfied celebrity has his confidence shattered when ingenue Kathy Selden (Debbie Reynolds) dismisses film actors as shadows without substance. After getting over the insult, he falls hard for her--much to the consternation of his co-star, the sexy, selfish Lina Lamont (Jean Hagen), who wants Don all to herself. But Don has career troubles too. The wild popularity of THE JAZZ SINGER has studios scrambling to change from silent films to talkies, and Lina's shrill voice and Don's stiff acting left the preview audience roaring with laughter. There's only one way to save the movie and their careers: turn THE DUELLING CAVALIER into a musical, with Kathy secretly dubbing in Lina's lines and songs. But can they hide the truth from Lina?
