As soon as you begin to watch Sin City, you cannot fail to notice the very distinctive style of cinematography. Despite being presented almost exclusively in black and white, the visual experience is undiminished, and in fact during the most pivotal plot moments the presence of colour helps to accentuate the importance of the moment.
The film follows the personal development of a multitude of characters, but at times the screenplay can seem a touch dogged; each character is pursued in turn, rather than in the more elegant manned of films such as crash, where developments are pursued simultaneously. This leads to quite untimely appearances later in the film of characters who initially appeared long since dead, and can take a little getting used to.
It must be said, therefore, that whilst a unique idea and presentation, sin city might not be to everyone's taste - a difficult film to recommend.
