[AABF21] ? Guess Who's Coming to Criticise Dinner? Original Air Date: 24 Oct 1999 Written By: Al Jean Directed By: Nancy Kruse Special Guest: Ed Asner Story Line: Homer becomes a food critic for the local newspaper, he gives everything excellent reviews and everyone in Springfield gets fat. When he is told that he is allowed to give bad reviews, he starts giving very bad reviews and the restaurant owners in Springfield want this to stop. They want to murder Homer! My Opinion: Yet another great episode that fits together well. Some really good jokes and seeing all the people in Springfield as fat people is really good to see. Watch out for when Mr. Burns' skins break under his weight!
[3F05] - King-Size Homer Original Air Date: 5 Nov 95 Written By: Dan Greaney Directed By: Jim Reardon Story Line: Homer needs to gain 61lbs in order to be classified as disabled and so he can work at home. My Opinion: Some really good animation and great seeing Homer as a really, really fat man and the jokes they make out of it, the one with him trying to dial the phone is a classic, remember that one?
[8F09] - Burns Verkaufen Der Kraftwerk Original Air Date: 5 Dec 91 Written By: Jon Vitti Directed By: Mark Kirkland Story Line: Mr Burns sells the Power Plant to some Germans who have highly developed work ethic. Homer has trouble keeping up to these high standards and causes him a lot of trouble. My Opinion: This is an absolutely fantastic episode and if you are a fan of the Simpsons, you will remember this. Some great jokes thrown in about our German friends.
[3F03] - Lisa The Vegetarian Original Air Date: 15 Oct 95 Written By: David S. Cohen Directed By: Mark Kirkland Special Guest: Paul & Linda McCartney Story Line: Homer is planning a barbecue but this isn't like by Lisa after her visit to the Storeytown Kid's Park and has forsaken to eat all meat. My Opinion: A great episode and one where Lisa takes centre stage and a story line has evolved out of her moral dilemmas.
Conclusion **************** Another great collection of episodes that you can watch again and again, even if you have seen them over and over already! These are some really good episodes. Some of these episodes can be found on the box sets that are now available. When I first brought this video I hadn't seen the first episode so it was a nice surprise to see this one.
I received this video as part of a video club I had joined and I was paying around £13.99, and this was a few years ago. This is now available from lots of different places and at very good prices. I own a lot of videos and DVD's of the Simpsons and they all go great as part of a collection. This is a video that will appeal to all Simpsons fans young and old!
Advantages: Funny, original comedy Disadvantages: None
The Simpsons - Classics - Raiders Of The Lost Fridge is a compilation of Simpsons episodes with one theme in common. This volume deals with food. Now, how they managed to narrow this down to four episodes when every single one has Homer professing his love for Doughnuts or Duff beer is beyond me, but they did it. The four episodes included here are "Guess Who's Coming To Criticise Dinner?", "King-Size Homer", "Burns Verkaufen Der Kraftwerk" and "Lisa ... ...notch. After a talk with the other food critics though, he resorts to being insulting (including a razor sharp put down of a restaurants pea soup) and Lisa quite helping him. This is a later episode so is not as well known as earlier ones, but holds up well. The scene with Homer and Santa's Little Helper is one of the best I've seen in recent years.
