THE MOVIE REVIEW RATHER THAN DVD FEATURES!
INTRO
The Silent Hill DVD is a 2006 Horror film which was directed by Christoph Gans and was written by Roger Avary. The film takes its idea from the adaptation of Konami's Silent Hill video game. The film takes its inspiration from numerous Silent Hill video games including Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2 and Silent Hill 3. However the main body of the movie has its own adaptation.
CAST
Radha Mitchell as Rose Da Silva, Sean Bean as Christopher Da Silva Jodelle Ferland as Sharon Da Silva and Alessa Gillespie Laurie Holden as Cybil Bennett Deborah Kara Unger as Dahlia Gillespie Alice Krige as Christabella
PLOT
The movie depicts a mother who takes her daughter to Silent Hill because of her out cries of "SILENT HILL" when sleeping. Having to bombard Silent Hills gates the mother (Rose) is knocked unconscious because of the crash. When she awakens she finds that her daughter (Sharon) is missing and the town seems to be engulfed within a dark, fog and ash filled parallel reality. Having seen a figure which resembles Sharon, Rose follows the figure only to find herself in a dark, dingy courtyard. Whist there a civil defence siren sounds and Rose is plummeted into darkness and soon surrounded by disfigured children trying to get at her. She falls unconscious with fear and awakens to the previous fog and ash filled reality with the song "Ring of Fire" playing in the background. From there on, terrifying and heart ranching events occur as Roses desperate battle to find her daughter begins.
PRODUCTION
It took a total of five years to obtain the rights to Silent Hill from Konami. Gans the director sent a video to Konami explaining his plans in adapting the movie Silent Hill and how important this was to him since he enjoyed the video games. Konami were so impressed from this video that they rewarded Gans with the film rights. The people largely responsible for the video games, became directly involved with the making of the movie all the way to the movies post-production. The movie was filmed in Brantford, Onario and Hamilton, Ortario in super 35 video format for its ability to cleanly capture light and to digitally manipulate certain aspects of the movie later in editing. Director Christophe Gans describes the concept of the town's connection to the child Alessa and the cult, "It's a town of people trapped in dark dreams, and she inflicts onto the town what those people did to her body. That is, to me, the meaning of the darkness. The appearance of the town is corrupted in the way that her own flesh was wounded." "It's interesting because the town itself mirrors this fractured psychology--different dimensions, different doubles of the same person."
The score to the film consists of the music from Akira Yamaoka's soundtracks to the four main games in the video game series. They were arranged by the film composer Jeff Danna, with some tracks appearing in almost identical form to their in-game counterparts, while others were recreated entirely.
SEQUAL
It has been announced that a sequel will be made called "Silent Hill 2" which is describes as being "well in the way" by Hans.
PERSONAL OPIONION
Yer, Silent Hill is well worth a watch, although not entirely true to the actual video games, its general adaptation is true to the style of Silent Hill which reflects the involvement of the video game crew. I rate it 7/10.

I see you've posted this as a DVD review, but you've not mentioned the DVD. Are there any extras? If so, what are they and are they any good? If you add to this, or if you change it to be posted as a "Film Only" review, which can be done by accessing "edit review" above the review and changing the drop down menu under the "Which format are you reviewing?" question at the bottom, please let me know and I'll re-rate.

Advantages: A decent idea and a cast that with a better script would have worked well Disadvantages: A disappointingly drawn out script and and criminal underuse of Sean Bean
