Silence of the Lambs.
It is a name that should once again be increasingly familiar now that its sequel, Hannibal has been released.
Now that I have actually seen the sequel, it just puts an emphasise on the importance of the role played by Jodie Foster, Hannibal was not right without her as Clarice Starling!
Silence of the Lambs follows the now undoubtedly famous trials and tribulations fledging FBI agent Clarice Starling has to suffer while on the case of a serial killer. She is instructed to enlist the help of the pyschotic, if softly spoken, Dr. Hannibal(the literal cannibal) Lecter.
Anthony Hopkins is superb as the villain as the piece, but for me, it is really Jodie Foster who shines in her role as Clarice. She is the eptimone of all goodness, while Mr. Lecter represents pure, but sane, evil.
The film is gory, but the story is absolutely fantastic. It is the most chilling and sickening film I have ever had the pleasure of watching, and both Hopkins and Foster are nothing short of genius in the film.
Their appearances are what really make the film, and all that I can say is that it was a great pity that Jodie Foster declined to reprise her role in the sequel. But, in the end it just makes this film even more of a timeless classic that you really have to see! Oh...and how could I forget, it taught the world of a nice Ciannti and some Fava beans...need I say more(no witty remarks on that one please!)?

Advantages: excellent script, very intelligently crafted, well directed and multiple Oscar-winning! Disadvantages: very few, and they pale into insignificance when compared with the advantages
Advantages: Anthony Hopkins is exceptional in his performance a truly thrilling film. Disadvantages: Is not in my opinion as explosive and intense as the 2001 follow up 'Hannibal'.
